Suggs joined the Cardinals this offseason after spending a remarkable 16 years with the Ravens. He attended high school in the area and spent three years of college at Arizona State, so the destination made sense for him to wind down his career. No reason was given for his absence from Tuesday's practice, so it could simply be the case of rest awarded to a veteran. Still, the situation should be monitored if he continues to miss time. He is projected to start at outside linebacker opposite Chandler Jones once the season kicks off.

Since he was selected 10th overall in the 2003 draft, he's picked up a Super Bowl ring, named NFL Defensive Player of the Year in 2011, and racked up 132.5 sacks in 229 games played. Once a deal is official, the 36-year-old will serve as a pass-rushing complement to Chandler Jones, who has compiled double-digit sacks in four consecutive campaigns.

General manager Eric DeCosta said Wednesday that he'll meet with Suggs' agents in March at the NFL combine to gauge the veteran's interest in returning to the Ravens in 2019, Jamison Hensley of ESPN.com reports. "I think [Suggs] is definitely a guy we want back," DeCosta said. "He's a guy that means a lot to our franchise, as a player but also as a leader."

Suggs -- who is slated to become an unrestricted free agent next month -- passionately stated after Baltimore's playoff loss to the Chargers that he hopes to continue his playing career in 2019. Baltimore seems eager to bring him back if the two sides can come to terms on a contract, though in such a scenario, Suggs may have to accept a pay cut compared to what he's received in previous years. The 36-year-old appeared in all 16 regular-season games for Baltimore in 2018, compiling 34 tackles and seven sacks while scoring his first touchdown since 2008.

Suggs recorded 34 tackles (25 solo), seven sacks, six passes defensed, a forced fumble and fumble recovery he returned for a touchdown across 16 games in the 2018 season.

Outside of injury-riddled seasons in which he missed at least eight games, Suggs had his lowest tackle count since his rookie season back in 2003. However, the veteran linebacker does more on the field and in the locker room than can be measured on a stat sheet. He managed to play in an impressive 72 percent of the defensive snaps last season and reached the end zone for the first time in a decade. The longtime Raven will now enter free agency after the 16-year pro noted he has "no itch" to retire, according to Jamison Hensley of ESPN. It'd be strange to picture the future Hall of Famer in anything but a Ravens' uniform but in today's NFL nothing is for certain.

Suggs (hamstring) is active for Sunday's Week 17 tilt against the Browns.

Suggs will be available as expected to help slow down dynamic rookie Baker Mayfield and an improved Browns offense. The veteran linebacker's presence is especially welcome in a game that Baltimore must prevail in to ensure a postseason berth.

Suggs typically receives regular days off from practice, so his absence Wednesday isn't a huge concern for his availability for Sunday's important regular-season finale. However, that sentiment will change if the veteran remains sidelined Thursday and Friday.

Suggs is now at 6.5 sacks on the season, which is tied with Za'Darius Smith for the lead on the team. He'll have his hands full this coming Sunday when the Ravens head to Kansas City, as the Chiefs have only allowed 20 sacks on the season -- the fifth best mark in the league.

Suggs has recorded a sack in three consecutive weeks and is up to 5.5 on the season. Despite turning 36 less than two weeks ago he's still a force when it comes to rushing the passer. He'll aim to maintain his consistently strong play in Week 8, when Baltimore faces off against Carolina.

EDGE Analysis

Suggs wasn't prolific Sunday, his only tackle coming on his sack of Baker Mayfield. He's recorded at least one sack in three of Baltimore's five games this season and has been a reliable veteran IDP option. He'll aim to take down Marcus Mariota and slow down the Titans' offense in Week 6.
