Redskins re-signed S Tanard Jackson. Jackson was reinstated from his indefinite suspension Tuesday and was subsequently released. The reasoning happened to be his old contract. Now, he'll play on the veteran minimum and try and earn a roster spot this summer. Considering Jackson hasn't played since 2011, the odds are stacked against him.

Redskins released S Tanard Jackson. The move comes one day after Jackson was reinstated from his indefinite suspension. Two months shy of his 29th birthday, Jackson has appeared in only 12 games since the end of the 2009 season, and zero since 2011. There's a good chance he's played his final down.

NFL reinstated S Tanard Jackson from his indefinite suspension. A fourth-round pick in the 2007 draft, Jackson hasn't played an NFL snap since 2011. He was a productive early-career starter in Tampa Bay (2007-2009), but has endured multiple violations of the league's substance abuse policy, and his physical conditioning is unclear after so much time away from the game. The Redskins will likely treat anything he gives them in 2014 as a bonus.

Redskins DC Jim Haslett says the team would welcome back suspended FS Tanard Jackson if he's reinstated before the season. Jackson's suspension for multiple violations of the league's substance-abuse policy is considered "indefinite," but is subject to review on September 3 -- just under one week before Washington's opener against Philadelphia. "He's a heck of a football player,' Haslett said of Jackson. "I don't know where that stands with the NFL, but we'd welcome him back with open arms."

Suspended FS Tanard Jackson remains under contract with the Redskins for 2013. Jackson, suspended indefinitely for multiple violations of the NFL's substance abuse policy, had his $700,000 base salary from 2012 "tolled" into 2013. He is eligible for reinstatement beginning on August 31. The Redskins can't be counting on Jackson. Anything they get from him should be considered a big bonus.

Redskins FS Tanard Jackson has been suspended indefinitely for violating the league's substance-abuse policy. Per FOX Sports' Jay Glazer, Jackson's status will not be re-evaluated until 2013. According to beat writer John Keim, the Redskins had been waiting a "long time" to learn Jackson's status, suggesting they knew such a ban was possible. Jackson, of course, was suspended for all of 2010 for violating the NFL's drug policy. He had been competing with Madieu Williams and DeJon Gomes at free safety. Although Jackson is still only 27, a second year-long ban is going to threaten his career.
