One of the ideas that's been in the minds of impressionable fantasy owners for who-knows-how-long is that running backs have a breaking point after a certain amount of carries. It's a tiring argument that stems from some very high profile cases including Terrell Davis, Clinton Portis, and Shaun Alexander, who all managed to hit the big 350+ and then fall off the earth the following year. Despite being a fantasy friendly franchise, the Atlanta Falcons have suffered through several disappointing NFL seasons in a row. The 2014 campaign ended up being the last they could endure with their long time coach Mike Smith and they ultimately decided to make some coaching changes. With Smith out, new Head Coach Dan Quinn and Offensive Coordinator Kyle Shanahan should turn this team around quickly given the amount of talent they have on offense and their former successes. 2015 Rookie Preview fantasysharks.com Mon 5/18/15 9:00 AM

The NFL Draft is in the over and most of the rookie mini-camps are done. Now we can focus on the 2015 season. After the tremendous season had by several rookies in 2014, I can hardly wait for the encore performance that the 2015 class has in store. The 2014 class had a terrific group of wide receivers, but this year's class has that, plus a very good group at running back as well. Below is how I see things shaking out as far as rankings go in redraft leagues for the coming year. 1. Melvin Gordan – RB – San Diego Chargers The early favorite for Offensive Rookie of the Year could very well be Melvin Gordan for the San Diego Chargers. San Diego traded 2 draft picks to move up 2 spots to get him in the first round and he enters the best possible situation. He plays on a good team, with a good quarterback, and a big need for a #1 running back. Gordan averaged 7.6 yards per carry for Wisconsin last year with 29 touchdowns and 2,587 yards. A big factor in achieving those gaudy numbers is he hits top speed quickly. Melvin could also be very strong at the end of the year for you because his Strength of Schedule is very nice during playoff Weeks 14-16. 2. Amari Cooper – WR – Oakland Raiders It looks like Derek Carr has a new best friend in Amari Cooper. Cooper comes in as the most pro-ready wide receiver with all the tools to excel in the NFL. Amari is a terrific route runner with good long speed which should help him be a target monster in Oakland. Last year at Alabama, he lead all wideouts in targets (174) and receptions (124). Realistically, the Raiders should be behind most games and should be throwing the ball more, and that means more production out of Amari. Remember, that you don’t need to be on a good football team to be a productive fantasy football performer. 3. Nelson Agholor – WR – Philadelphia Eagles The loss of Jeremy Maclin in free agency was feared throughout Philadelphia, and it came to fruition as Maclin left to join former Eagles Head Coach Andy Reid in Kansas City. Apparently, Agholor was the plan all along for Chip Kelly, and he couldn’t have been happier to land him in the draft. In his senior year at USC, Agholor had 1,313 receiving yards and 12 touchdowns to lead the Trojans. Some experts said that this was the pick a month before the draft, knowing that Nelson was an...

The Fantasy Football NFL Draft Guide fantasysharks.com Thu 4/23/15 2:00 PM

Quarterback Philadelphia Eagles *This is the perfect place for Marcus Mariota. He knows what Chip Kelly wants in his offense and could be the quarterback that takes that college offense to the NFL level. Instant success in a fast-paced offense where his multi-dimensional talent at quarterback could mean solid fantasy production. *Opportunity Grade: B+ Multi-skilled quarterback in fast paced offense could mean Russell Wilson-like fantasy production at quarterback. Tampa Bay Buccaneers They are looking to take Winston with the 1st overall pick. Does this mean that he will be an instant fantasy success in Year 1? Probably not. Unless you are in a keeper league where you are drafting rookies or looking towards the future, Winston may be someone to think about. He has two young weapons in Mike Evans and Austin Seferian-Jenkins that are very talented. Winston has young talent around him to be successful if they can get the offensive line fixed in the next two seasons. Opportunity Grade: C+ Future tense only, weapons are available, opportunity will present itself. New York Jets, St. Louis Rams, Washington Redskins, Cleveland Browns, Tennessee Titans These are all teams linked to possibly drafting Marcus Mariota. Rookie quarterbacks struggle in the NFL, especially those that ran a non pro-style offense in college. In all of these situations, he is not projected to be the Day 1 starter, but be in a competition for the starting job. Opportunity Grade: C- He is a good kid, hard work ethic, has ...

Waiver Wire Wonders - Week 17 fantasysharks.com Tue 12/23/14 7:15 AM

Our final installment of the wonders is this week. Thanks forfollowing along all season. We've got the usual assortment of suspects thisweek, as we look to help those who have one more week of fantasy in them andneed to pick up some talent. The fun doesn't end here, though, aswe'll be back next week with the annual "All-Waiver Wire" team. See you then! Solid Pickups RB Matt Asiata, Minnesota If Minnesota is going to get into the end zone on the ground, itis the job of Asiata to do that. He did so three times this past week against Miami-- two rushing touchdowns to go along with a two-point conversion. This inaddition to 58 yards on 16 carries and three catches for 19 yards. A prettygood day at the office. Minnesota is finishing out the string, and look forAsiata to continue to hit pay dirt in the season finale against Chicago. TE Luke Willson, Seattle So Russell Wilson can use a tight end after all! Willson caughtthree passes against Arizona, good for 139 yards and two touchdowns. This isquite a spike in production as he's been quiet all season. Comingoff a successful game, look for Wilson to continue to throw in his direction inthe season finale next week. RB Jordan Todman, Jacksonville Against Tennessee, Todman was the better back for Jacksonville, and with Toby Gerhart hurting, we expect that Todman will see plenty of action. He had a spectacular scoring run of 62 yards, to go along with a couple ofcatches out of the backfield. Gerhart's status for next week is unknown. If heis unable to go, Todman is worth a look as a Week 17 starter. WR Doug Baldwin, Seattle As defenses stack the line to make a feeble attempt at tacklingMarshawn Lynch, the Seattle passing game has had some stars appear in the lastfew games. To go along with the tight end Willson, Baldwin also had a stronggame against Arizona. He caught seven passes for 113 yards, givinghim a three-game total of 263 yards. Look for him to also be active in Seattle'sfinal game of the regular season. On the Radar RB Leon Washington, Tennessee Though Tennessee's ground game is suspect, fantasy owners can lookto Washington as a pass catching specialist. He caught seven passes this pastweek against Jacksonville, good for 62 yards and a touchdown. He is activeenough that those in points per reception leagues can take a peek here ifneeded for a fantasy start the final week of the season. WR Kenny Britt, St. Louis Even though St. Louis is out of it and is facing the ...

Rookie Review - Week 13 fantasysharks.com Wed 11/26/14 9:06 AM

Theplay of your lifetime from a rookie and other great performances. Please take alook. Quarterbacks Derek Carr, Oakland -- Maybe, just maybe, wehave another bright spot that Carr can work with for the improvement of theOakland Raiders. Latavius Murray had been injured for much of his first twoyears, but was given a chance because of the ineffective play of MauriceJones-Drew and Darren McFadden. Murray had 112 yards and two touchdowns on fourcarries. He did have to leave the game because of a concussion, but that helpedopen up the offense. Carr ended up leading the Raiders to their first winagainst a good Kansas City defense. Carr ended the day with a line of 18-of-35for 174 yards line with one touchdown and a sack. I do have to say that Carrgot lucky because Kansas City had many interception possibilities, but did notconvert. Blake Bortles, Jacksonville-- Itis really hard to fault any quarterback for Jacksonville over the past five years,as they have not had much help. Once again, the lack of help on the offensiveline and at the skill positions limited the play of Bortles. He is, however, showing improvement in limiting his interceptions, only throwing one a gameover the last three compared to two per in every previous game. You can't blamehim, he has no protection and very little else to work with. His receiversalways get hurt and thus cannot get proper timing with the quarterback. Bortlesended up 15-of-27 for 146 yards with one interception and four sacks. Healso added 24 yards rushing. The Jacksonville Jaguars need to severely upgradethe offensive line to properly gauge Bortles and his talent. Teddy Bridgewater, Minnesota- Itfinally happened! Bridgewater had his first game with two touchdowns, and ithappened against the hated Green Bay Packers. To be honest, I expected muchworse results than what actually happened. Bridgewater actually showed somepoise even though he was under great duress. Once again, the offensive line waslike a leaky faucet and provided little protection. Bridgewater ended up going 21-of-37 for 210 yards with twotouchdowns and one interception with two sacks. He added 32 rushing yards, showinghis mobility. The Minnesota Vikings should actually feel good that he kept thegame close throughout. Zach Mettenberger, Tennessee -- If you are a TennesseeTitans fan, you have to love the gunslinging style of Mettenberger. They havethe talent at wide receiver and tight end to put points on the board. Mettenbergerhad a nice day on ...
