I love dynasty leagues. Getting to build and develop a team, make trades that have long-lasting impact and the complexity of decision making that goes into every move and waiver decision is so much more exciting to me than the redraft format. In my dynasties, I've had a golden rule when it comes to the rookie draft: draft on tale[...]Keep on reading: 2015 Fantasy Football Dynasty Rookie Rankings: 1-12

Fantasy Football Stock Up / Down: Training Camp News and Notes (8/2) rotoballer.com Sat 8/2/14 5:20 AM

This article references Andre Williams, Calvin Johnson, Greg Jennings, James White, Justin Bethel, SP, Stephen Hill, WR and more! NFL Training Camp News, Notes and Analysis for 8/2Stock UpRB Andre Williams, NYGThe Giants love to split running back duties. In all of Coughlin's tenure, they've always attempted to have a two back system. With Wilson's injury and the only other competitors to split with Jennings being Hillis and Cox, it's very possible that Williams finds a role in the offense soon. On 8/1,  Jennings was given a day to rest while Andre Williams got to work with the first team. RB Jam[...] Keep on reading: Fantasy Football Stock Up / Down: Training Camp News and Notes (8/2)

A Quick Note on Dez Bryant, Stephen Hill, and Basic Sense rotoviz.com Sat 6/7/14 12:59 PM

Earlier this offseason I wrote a piece titled, "A.J. Green and Justin Hunter Have Decided to Score More TDs in 2014". The premise was that the two players had added weight, and weight helps WRs score TDs. So when I... Read more ›

NFL Prospect Analysis -- Part 1 fantasysharks.com Fri 2/21/14 9:06 AM

Kelvin Benjamin Kelvin Benjamin, WR, Florida State Scott's analysis - Kelvin Benjamin possesses physical tools that most prospects can only dream of. He is going to wow us this weekend at the combine. At 6'5", 235 pounds with a likely mid-4.5 40-time, Benjamin is going to cement his status as a first round draft pick. That said, yes, Benjamin possesses all of the physical tools that we want in a WR. He's a true monster and almost impossible to cover, especially in the red zone. However, there are a lot of warts in his game at this point that will prevent him from having an immediate impact on the NFL. Let's start with the most glaring (to me anyway): Benjamin is a below-average route runner who has simply used his size to his advantage. He seems disinterested at times when running routes, which makes it much easier for smaller and inferior defenders to defend him. Additionally, there have been times where he has shown a lack of effort. He had a relatively high drop percentage last year, which I believe is because of a lack of focus. He's always been better than his competition, simply because he's been more physically talented; that won't happen in the NFL. For a player with his immense size, he doesn't use his body well to gain separation from smaller defenders off the line, either. As someone who needs time to develop and grasp the professional game, he is a ‘project' type of player in which I will have to draft day one in order to acquire. Benjamin is also a bit older. Despite coming off a national-championship season as a redshirt sophomore, Benjamin just celebrated his 23rd birthday. While he's not encroaching Brandon Weeden territory, his age should be a bit worrisome in terms of his long term development. He has yet to get subtle nuances of the game, and had reportedly struggled picking up the nuances of Florida State's offense. It's difficult to believe he'll be better at the next level. I see Benjamin as a boom-or-bust kind of player. Inevitably, he'll gain comparisons to Calvin Johnson or Alshon Jeffery based on his size. Unfortunately, there are too many similar big-bodied WRs that have busted, he reminds us of Stephen Hill. Mark and I were all over the huge bust potential of Stephen Hill before the 2012 draft. I do see a much better player in Benjamin than Hill, but there's also the same bust potential. It'll depend on where he ends up. Mark's analysis -- While I love to play the contrarian role to Scott in our write-ups, I am not ...

Rookie Review - Week 8 fantasysharks.com Wed 10/23/13 9:06 AM

Week 7 saw many injuries that provided some rookies a chance to show their stuff. What were the results? Quarterback Geno Smith -- Another late victory again for the New York Jets this week, this time in overtime against the hated New England Patriots. I don't know what it is, but Smith must be a leader in the locker room as the Jets are winning -- something I thought I wouldn't say this year. Smith was 17-of-33 for 233 yards with a touchdown and an interception. He also had a touchdown rushing on six carries for 32 yards. Can he become a force in fantasy football when Santonio Holmes and Stephen Hill get back to full health? Might be someone to watch and pick up in a few weeks. Mike Glennon -- Glennon may end up as somebody to watch. With limited help on offense he went 26-of-44 for 256 yards with two touchdowns and he also had 13 yards rushing. Glennon did suffer through three sacks and a fumble, also. Will he be able to put better numbers up with a healthy Mike Williams and more time with the first team offense? Matt Barkley -- The Philadelphia Eagles lost Michael Vick last week to injury, and now lose his backup Nick Foles to a concussion. Barkley came in to finish the game last week, but he was dreadful. He finished 11-of-20 for 129 yards with three interceptions. He was rushed often and did not look composed at all. Barkley will need a lot more time to learn and grow before he will amount to anything in fantasy football. Running Back Giovani Bernard -- The Cincinnati Bengals thought they'd be in a shootout versus the Detroit Lions and decided they should pass more than run. Maybe they were right. Bernard only had seven carries for 27 yards, but he also had five catches for 26 yards on six targets. Bernard continues to show that he is the better playmaker than BenJarvus Green-Ellis and should see his workload increase the rest of the season. Eddie Lacy -- With two starting wide receivers out with injury I figured the Green Bay Packers would lean on the running game more. Lacy had 22 carries for 82 yards and a touchdown and also had five catches for 26 yards on seven targets. With another weapon in the passing game suffering another injury, Lacy should be the focal point of this high-powered offense. He is moving up the ranks very fast! Andre Ellington -- You had to figure that the Seattle Seahawks would control the line of scrimmage in this game, and they did. Seattle controlled this game and did not give much up to the Arizona offense. ...

Week 5: West is Best fantasysharks.com Thu 10/3/13 9:06 AM1 Comment

It was just a few seasons ago that NFL fans mocked the NFC West division as their playoff seed generally hovered around .500 or just over. The AFC West was slightly more impressive and was generally won by the San Diego Chargers with most of the other competitors struggling along. Through four weeks of the 2013 season, the West divisions are without a doubt.... the best! With a combined record of 20 wins and 12 losses the NFC and AFC West divisions are playing well early on against other divisions. In addition, the Seattle Seahawks and Denver Broncos are the clear favorites thus far for the Super Bowl. Hopefully, your teams are off to quick starts as well. If not, there is still a lot of season left to pull together a win streak and contend. Quarterback The Manning brothers' seasons have been absolutely polar opposite. Older brother Peyton is posting career highs with his undefeated Denver Broncos, while younger brother Eli Manning has eleven turnovers and remains winless. Eli Manning will rebound in Week 5 against the division rival Philadelphia Eagles. Philadelphia allows the most passing yards to opposing quarterbacks and has managed only two interceptions. Neither team's defense is playing well, so expect a lot of touchdowns in this NFC East shootout. If you have a consistent tier one quarterback, then play him. However, if your starter is hindered with injury or on a bye, have some faith in Eli to finally rebound this week. Week 5 Forecast: 275 passing yards and two touchdowns Running Back Owners of Maurice Jones-Drew are undoubtedly disappointed, but generally aware that the lack of production is not completely on the back of their veteran running back. Labeling the Jacksonville Jaguars offense as "dismal" is truly an understatement. MJD has yet to top 50 rushing yards and is averaging 2.4 yards per carry. If you own MJD, you need to start him in Week 5 as the matchup couldn't be more favorable against the St. Louis Rams who have allowed the most rushing yards to opposing running backs. Don't expect a monster game especially if the pass offense struggles again, but anticipate MJD's best game of the early season. Week 5 Forecast: 100 total yards and one touchdown Wide Receiver I understand how difficult it is starting a New York Jets' receiver in your lineup. Nonetheless, Santonio Holmes and Stephen Hill have both been relatively productive with a few big performances already this season. Both receivers are projected ...

Survivor - Week 5 fantasysharks.com Wed 10/2/13 1:15 PM

Everyone will be hopping on the anti-Jaguar bandwagon in Week 5. Is that a smart idea? Check out the breakdown to help make your choice this weekend! For those who have been reading for the last few years, my golden rule is to avoid the road teams, especially early in the season when you have more options. I also do not like to take divisional games if I can avoid them. However, it is understood that you may not have a choice some weeks to follow those rules. It is also more difficult now as some survivor pools make you pick two teams down the stretch of the season to thin out the field. Let's get into the action for Week 5: Thursday Night Bills @ Browns -- Avoid this game, but you have to respect the way Cleveland is playing after trading Trent Richardson. Sunday & Monday Games Top Picks : Rams -- The Rams are home against the Jaguars in Week 5 and I would suspect that everyone would be jumping on them this week. I do not think that the Jaguars can win this game. However, after seeing Sam Bradford perform last Thursday night I'm somewhat concerned. The defense should be able to propel the Rams to victory, but despite the 12-point spread, this game is certainly not a guarantee. Falcons -- I may be inclined to go with the 1-3 Falcons who are desperate for a win at home. The question you need to ask is can I see myself using the Falcons the rest of the way? Maybe next week at home against Tampa, but that is a divisional game anyway. Their remaining home games include divisional games with the Saints and Panthers, as well as visits from Seattle and Carolina. The Jets will likely be missing two starting WRs in Santonio Holmes and Stephen Hill. Look for Atlanta to come out strong at home on Monday night. Selection : FALCONS -- I would advise you to take Atlanta this week over the Rams. Maybe you get lucky and the majority of your pool goes down with the Rams. If the Rams and Falcons both win, then there is not much lost as Atlanta's future schedule does not provide any no-brainers. Avoid : If you were eliminated with Cincinnati last week, shame on you for breaking the golden rule of survivor (choosing road teams in divisional matchups). It is one thing if Indianapolis is playing in Jacksonville, but a different story with the Bengals and Browns. The Jaguars appear to be the 2013 exception to the rule. There are a bunch of 1-2 point spreads that you should avoid this week, but some road teams to avoid include San Diego (@ Oakland). Take a...
