Nall could have a role in Chicago's game plan Sunday against the Rams in the event David Montgomery (ankle) is unable to play, Nathan Smith of the Bears' official site reports. "Developmentally, he's done a great job," coach Matt Nagy said of Nall. "He came in last year and was a little bit raw, but he picked up the system very quick...we feel absolutely comfortable with him."
EDGE Analysis
Montgomery rolled his ankle in practice earlier this week and only managed limited participation in Friday's session, prompting Nagy to label him as a game-time decision leading up to Sunday's 8:20 p.m. ET kickoff. The injury to Montgomery is especially untimely after Chicago waived Mike Davis last weekend, leaving Tarik Cohen as the only experienced healthy running back on the roster. Considering the 5-foot-6, 191-pound Cohen is more ideally suited as a gadget player or pass-catching specialist, however, the 6-foot-2, 232-pound Nall looks like a better candidate to absorb a good portion of Montgomery's workload on the ground, if the rookie is inactive. Nall played exclusively on special teams in his NFL debut in Week 10, but he averaged 6.4 yards per carry across 56 totes over the past two preseasons.

Nall is expected to be called up from Chicago's practice squad ahead of Sunday's game against Detroit, Adam Jahns of The Athletic reports.
EDGE Analysis
Nall's addition could be a sign of Chicago shifting further toward a run-first identity. The 23-year-old power back will take the spot previously occupied by the released Mike Davis, but Nall's not expected to garner a significant workload.

Nall was waived by the Bears on Saturday, Aaron Wilson of the Houston Chronicle reports.
EDGE Analysis
Nall was projected to make the roster as the team's fourth back, but obviously failed to do so. The Oregon State product will wait for his next move, hoping to latch onto a practice squad or another 53-man roster.

Nall carried the ball 10 times for 31 yards in the team's preseason finale against the Titans on Thursday. He also added one reception for two yards.
EDGE Analysis
Nall worked as the starting running back but struggled to find consistent lanes. His longest rush went for 10 yards, but he had only two other rushes that went for four or more yards. Currently projected to make the roster as the team's fourth back, Nall could be challenged by Josh Caldwell who was effective as both a runner and receiver Thursday.

Nall rushed twice for 73 yards and caught one of two targets for 11 yards in Saturday's 27-17 preseason win over the Colts.
EDGE Analysis
Most of Nall's yardage came courtesy of a second-quarter 69-yard burst on a 1st-and-30 play. The 23-year-old out of Oregon State has established himself as the front runner for Chicago's No. 4 running back spot.

Nall rushed seven times for 23 yards while adding four receptions for 21 yards in the Bears' 32-13 preseason loss to the Giants on Friday.
EDGE Analysis
Despite seeing the most work of Chicago's backup running backs for the second week in a row, Nall only posted four yards per touch. With the top three spots on the depth chart spoken for, he'll continue to battle for the No. 4 spot with Taquan Missell and Kerrith Whyte.

Nall rushed five times for eight yards while adding four receptions for 21 yards in the Bears' 23-13 loss to Carolina on Thursday.
EDGE Analysis
Despite seeing nine touches against the Panthers' backup defenders, Nall was unable to generate 2.5 yards per touch. After spending the 2018 season on Chicago's practice squad, he's currently No. 4 on the depth chart at running back, and he'll continue to battle for a spot on the 53-man roster.

The Bears signed Nall to a reserve/future contract Tuesday.
EDGE Analysis
Nall was unable to make Chicago's 53-man roster out of training camp and spent the 2018 season on the practice squad. The rookie running back will fight for a depth spot in 2019.

Nall enters the NFL after posting 2,779 scrimmage yards and 28 touchdowns in three seasons at Oregon State, Adam Jahns of the Chicago Sun-Times reports.
EDGE Analysis
Potentially, Nall projects to fill a fullback or H-back role at the NFL level, so he could be competing with Mike Burton, who is currently the only fullback on the team. However, his receiving skills could also give him a chance to battle with Benny Cunningham, who's currently the backup receiving back to Tarik Cohen. He'll begin the preseason with a significant uphill battle to crack the 53-man roster, but if he has a solid camp, he also could be a candidate for the practice squad.

Nall inked a deal as an undrafted free agent with the Bears on Saturday, Tyson Alger of The Oregonian reports.
EDGE Analysis
The Oregon State product had a solid junior season by posting 810 rushing yards and two touchdowns, while making 27 catches for 240 yards and two scores. Nall decided to skip his senior year and enter the draft, and after going unpicked, he landed in a crowded backfield. Bears' running back Jordan Howard rushed for 1,122 yards and nine scores in 2017, while Tarik Cohen recorded four touchdowns, including on on the punt return. With all roles seemingly full, Nall will compete for a depth role.
