The Ravens released a statement Wednesday following TMZ's release of the Ray Rice-fiancee video, saying the team regards Rice's arrest on domestic violence charges as a "serious matter." Rice has a pristine off-field track record, but his arrest will be reviewed by the NFL. Per the court summons, Rice "committed assault by attempting to cause bodily injury" to his 26-year-old fiancee, "specifically by striking her with his hand, rendering her unconscious, at the Revel Casino." As cutting Rice would cause a $5.5M cap penalty, his roster spot is still very likely safe.

According to a summons to appear in court, Ray Rice allegedly struck his fiancee with his hand, rendering her unconscious at an Atlantic City casino last weekend. This apparently came after Rice's fiancee, Janay Palmer, struck him with her hand. Both Rice and Palmer are scheduled to appear in court at 9 AM ET on February 25 on simple assault-domestic violence charges. We hardly know all the facts, but it doesn't paint a pretty picture for Rice. The NFL will also review the matter. However, we don't expect any discipline from the league at this point.

TMZ has posted surveillance video that appears to show Ray Rice dragging his seemingly unconscious fiancee out of an elevator at an Atlantic City casino. The video is apparently from after the dispute between the two parties but before each was arrested. It's not a good look for Rice, who seems frustrated with the passed out Janay Palmer and doesn't know what to do before a man that looks like security steps in. Rice's camp says the video shows only the very end of what has happened. "We just ask that the public remember what a high-character, good person Ray is, and that they reserve judgment until all facts are out," his attorney said. The video is linked below.

Ray Rice's domestic violence arrest will be reviewed by the NFL under the personal conduct policy. It's common procedure for the league to look at all arrests. Ultimately, we wouldn't expect Rice to face any kind of suspension. He has no history whatsoever of off-field issues and his fiancee was also arrested during the incident at an Atlantic City casino. Before the incident, new offensive coordinator Gary Kubiak threw support behind Rice's on-field ability. "I think as he goes, we'll go. Our goal is to get him going, and he's excited to get going and put last year behind him."

Ravens GM Ozzie Newsome insisted after Ray Rice's weekend domestic violence arrest that Rice remains a "big part" of Baltimore's 2014 plans. The Ravens would take a $5.5 million cap hit to release Rice this offseason, so he isn't going anywhere. "When I left my office 20 minutes ago and John (Harbaugh) been in there 15 minutes before then, Ray Rice was still a big part of what we plan to do in 2014," insisted Newsome. ESPN Ravens reporter Jamison Hensley expects Rice to remain Baltimore's starting tailback in 2014.

Per the Atlantic City Police Dept.'s report, Ray Rice struck his fiancee in a domestic dispute at the Revel Casino before his 2:50 AM arrest for simple assault-domestic violence early Saturday. Predictably, police's version of the story is different from that of Rice's legal team. Rice's fiancee, Janay Palmer, was also charged with simple assault-domestic violence, and both were released shortly thereafter. "The complaint summons indicates that both Rice and Palmer struck each other with their hands," the police's statement said. Ravens P.R. director Chad Steele stated late Sunday that, "We have spoken with Ray, and know that they returned home together after being detained." This is Rice's first known arrest as a pro or collegiate.

New OC Gary Kubiak told the Ravens' website that he's committed to kickstarting Ray Rice after his career-worst 2013 season. Rice averaged a career-low 3.08 YPC in 2013, a figure that drops to 2.80 if you leave out his Week 11 game against the Bears' league-worst run defense. "I think as he goes, we'll go," Kubiak said of Rice. "Our goal is to get him going." Greg Schiano ran Rice 910 times in three seasons as a college player, and including playoffs he has amassed 1,621 more across six years in the NFL.

Ray Rice said he "should have thought twice" about playing through a hip injury last season. Rice blamed the injury for his lack of burst and insists he has "a lot of game left" at 27. Rice only averaged 3.1 YPC behind one of the worst run-blocking lines in the league in 2013. If Baltimore can address its offensive line woes and Rice can get healthy, the diminutive back could turn into a draft-day value. We still think Bernard Pierce has a heck of a chance to eat significantly into Rice's touches. Pierce projects as a great fit in new OC Gary Kubiak's zone-run scheme.

Ray Rice broke just nine tackles on 214 carries in 2013, according to Pro Football Focus. It's a woeful rate, leading to PFF grading Rice dead last among running backs in their "elusive ratings." Adrian Peterson, Marshawn Lynch, Chris Ivory, DeMarco Murray and Joique Bell held down the top-five spots in that category. Rice can blame his offensive line and nagging injuries all he wants, but the bottom line is that he couldn't make anyone miss. With 2,746 career touches on his resume between the NFL and college, we're skeptical this was a fluke.
