Rams released WR Mike Sims-Walker.
A move Sims-Walker hinted at on Monday morning is now official. It speaks to how big of a disappointment MSW was during his short time in St. Louis that the Rams opted to keep recent signee Nick Miller instead even though he has yet to play a down. Now let go by two of the league's most receiver-thin teams in the span of a year, it's hard to see MSW generating much, if any, interest on the open market. He is still only 26 years old, however.

Mike Sims-Walker hinted on Twitter Monday morning that he's expecting to be released.
"Done been thru a lot and pretty sure I'm gone go thru a lot more but I promise I have no brakes!!!!" The tweet has since been deleted, but is a pretty strong hint it's Sims-Walker who will be jettisoned to clear a roster spot for Brandon Lloyd. A healthy scratch on Sunday, MSW has been a flop for the Rams, hauling in just 11 catches for 139 yards while committing multiple drops. Interest in his services will be limited if he hits the open market.

The St. Louis Post-Dispatch does not expect Mike Sims-Walker to regain his starting job.
A healthy scratch on Sunday, Sims-Walker watched Danario Alexander and Greg Salas combine for 14 catches and 168 yards in his absence. Sims-Walker has just 11 catches for 139 yards on the season. The Rams decision to bench MSW came during the week, and the veteran wideout was running with the scout team by Friday. The Rams' receiver corps has been a weekly merry-go-round to this point, but Sims-Walker can be safely dropped.

Mike Sims-Walker caught just one pass for six yards in Sunday's loss loss to the Redskins.
Sims-Walker could have had a much bigger afternoon, but had four drops before halftime. Two came on third down, while one was a likely score. It was a pathetic performance from a veteran receiver who has been given every chance to carve out a meaningful role in his new home. Thanks to the Rams' dearth of dependable targets, MSW should continue to draw looks in the coming weeks. On pace for just 44 catches and 556 yards, however, he's fast becoming irrelevant from a fantasy perspectuve.

Mike Sims-Walker leads the Rams with 19 targets through three games.
Sims-Walker has just 10 catches for 133 yards and no touchdowns to show for it, highlighting his mediocre NFL skill set. Once Danny Amendola gets healthy, MSW's target count figures to drop as well. There's not much upside here.

Mike Sims-Walker caught three passes for 36 yards in Sunday's blowout loss to the Ravens.
All three of MSW's catches came in the second half, as he was completely invisible as St. Louis fell behind 27-0 in the first. He was targeted six times after drawing 11 looks in St. Louis' Week 2 loss. MSW has been given every opportunity to carve out a meaningful role in the Rams' receiver corps during the absence of Danny Amendola, but has done little to suggest he's anything more than PPR-league depth.

Mike Sims-Walker caught six passes for 92 yards in St. Louis' 28-16 loss to the Giants in Week 2.
MSW was clearly Sam Bradford's go-to target, seeing 11 passes thrown his way on the night. A large chunk of those were knocked down or under/over thrown, but Sims-Walker did a great job of hauling in the balls that reached him. As long as Danny Amendola stays sidelined, Sims-Walker will be the No. 1 target in the St. Louis receiver corps. Danario Alexander may have put up a touchdown and more yardage tonight, but MSW is the Ram you want in fantasy.

According to Bernie Miklasz of the St. Louis Post-Dispatch, Mike Sims-Walker "certainly can handle the slot" and is listed directly behind Danny Amendola on the Rams' receiver depth chart.
Amendola may be done for the year with a badly dislocated left elbow. No Rams receiver has been targeted more by Sam Bradford since the start of the 2010 season, so there are going to be a lot of balls up for grabs in St. Louis' pass-first offense. Brandon Gibson plays strictly outside, and the Rams have praised Sims-Walker's "versatility." We should have a bit better idea about the Rams' new-look receiver corps by the end of this week.

Rams GM Billy Devaney blamed injuries for Mike Sims-Walker's poor 2010 campaign in Jacksonville.
Sims-Walker dealt with an ankle injury last season, developed a "diva" reputation and the Jags showed no interest in re-signing him. "We've always liked him," Devaney said. "He was nicked a little bit last year with an ankle (injury) that hampered him. He tried to play through it, but you could see that he wasn't 100 percent." Now completely healthy, Sims-Walker is on the field for the majority of the Rams' two-wide sets. There's plenty of upside here in Josh McDaniels' offense.
