A source confirmed to ESPN's Adam Schefter that "all indications" are Matt Leinart's left collarbone is broken. The Texans will perform more tests when they arrive in Houston on Monday, but for now the expectation is that Leinart's season is over. Lance Zierlein of the Houston Chronicle expects the Texans to stay the course with rookie T.J. Yates at quarterback, and probably sign a veteran street free agent to challenge Kellen Clemens for the backup role. Look for Leinart to be placed on season-ending injured reserve by Tuesday of next week.

Citing a source with knowledge of the situation, Profootballtalk.com reports that the Texans fear Matt Leinart fractured his left collarbone on a third-down play Sunday, knocking him from the game. He has returned to the sideline in a sling, all but confirming a significant injury. Leinart also fractured his left collarbone in early October of 2007 with the Cardinals, and it ended his season. The Texans will have to hit the quarterback market this week if Leinart's incurred the same injury. Fifth-round pick T.J. Yates has shown better arm velocity than Leinart against the Jaguars, but has been inconsistent. Either way, the Texans will remain the NFL's most run-heavy team during the season's stretch run.

Matt Leinart exited Sunday's game at the end of the first half with a left shoulder injury. Keep in mind that this is the southpaw's throwing shoulder. Leinart took a shot on a third-down throw and was promptly replaced by rookie T.J. Yates. Leinart is questionable to return. Prior to the injury, Leinart was 10-of-13 for 57 yards and a touchdown, getting most of his completions on dump-off passes. Yates is a late-round rookie out of North Carolina.

Matt Leinart will be the Texans' starting quarterback in Week 12 against the Jaguars and possibly beyond. Matt Schaub is out indefinitely after suffering a foot injury on a QB sneak in the second quarter of Sunday's win over Tampa Bay. Leinart has undoubtedly been a bust since being drafted with the 10th overall pick in 2006, but he has at least shown the capability of keeping receivers like Larry Fitzgerald and Anquan Boldin involved and productive. We wouldn't downgrade Andre Johnson much for the stretch run. Still, expect the Texans to remain extremely run heavy when they come out of their Week 11 bye. Leinart should be added in two-QB leagues. He will very much struggle to be a worthwhile standard league fantasy option with a limited skill set and a run-first offense around him.

Matt Leinart completed 8-of-14 passes for 78 yards, one touchdown, and an interception in the Texans' preseason opener Monday night. We wanted to see the reportedly rejuvenated Leinart after numerous glowing stories coming out of Texans camp, and he looked pretty good. The pick was tipped at the line, and Leinart didn't seem to be moving around as deliberately and lackadaisically as he historically has. He's never going to be overly impressive in terms of physical skills, but could be a high-end QB2 with spot-starter potential in the Texans' offense if Matt Schaub went down.

Texans backup QB Matt Leinart has looked "outstanding" in training camp, according to the Houston Chronicle's John McClain. "He's made perfect throws on deep routes, slant routes and fade routes," said McClain. "The coaches love him." We've seen glowing reports of Leinart's camp work several times now. It looks like he could flirt with high-end QB2 value in a high-scoring offense should Matt Schaub go down with an injury.

Texans agreed to terms with QB Matt Leinart on an undisclosed contract. We're as surprised as you are. Leinart never climbed ahead of Dan Orlovsky on Houston's depth chart last season, and he's now got rookie T.J. Yates to deal with, too. Leinart was practically begging for a starting job this offseason. He must not have liked what he heard from the Seahawks and Redskins the past two days. This signing could lead to Orlovsky's release, as coach Gary Kubiak fought for Leinart's return.

Sources tell ESPN's Chris Mortensen that free agent Matt Leinart is now weighing signing with the Redskins against the Seahawks. Per Mort, Mike Shanahan had a high grade on Leinart coming out for the 2006 draft. (He took Jay Cutler one pick later.) Leinart would add another uninspiring option to an ugly Washington quarterback depth chart. However, we'd give Leinart a better chance of starting over John Beck than Tarvaris Jackson in Minnesota.

According to NFL Network's Jason La Canfora, the Seahawks are "likely" to sign free agent Matt Leinart to compete for a backup job. The Seahawks didn't want Leinart last year, but they've lowered their quarterback standards this time around. In Seattle, Leinart would figure to compete with Charlie Whitehurst for the primary backup job. The Seahawks may try to pass it all off as a three-way battle, but Tarvaris Jackson is the favorite to start.

The National Football Post's Dan Pompei thinks "it would almost be an upset" if free agent Matt Leinart doesn't end up in Seattle. This report comes a few days after Texans beat writer John McClain said in a chat he believes Leinart will be reunited with Pete Carroll. It's not necessarily unlikely to happen, but Carroll has already passed up one opportunity to bring his former pupil aboard.
