The Nashville Tennessean says the Titans may look to restructure Matt Hasselbeck's contract. Hasselbeck is entering the final year of his contract, and is set to earn $5.5 million. That's a bit much for a 37-year-old strict backup. Beat write John Glennon considers it unlikely for Tennessee to cut Hasselbeck, and there really isn't an urgency to do so with the Titans having plenty of cap space.

Matt Hasselbeck said he's content to serve as Jake Locker's backup once again next season. Entering the final year of his contract at age 38, Hasselbeck knows his role. He's expected to mentor Locker, aiding in the development of the Titans' franchise quarterback. It's not like Hasselbeck would be able to land a starting gig if he hit the open market anyway. "I'm OK with being a part of his maturing process if that's the role I have to play," he said. "What also goes with that role is stepping in if he can't go, so I knew all that coming in." Hasselbeck is due $5.5 million in base salary in 2013.

Coach Mike Munchak confirmed Monday that the Titans will start Matt Hasselbeck at quarterback in Week 9 against the Bears. Jake Locker (shoulder) has been practicing for two weeks, but Titans coaches seem to believe Hasselbeck gives them their best chance to win. Tennessee has tough upcoming matchups against the defenses of Chicago and Miami, before a Week 11 bye. It's conceivable that they'll stick with Hasselbeck for those two games, then reevaluate whether to reinsert Locker during the open date.

Matt Hasselbeck completed 22-of-29 passes for 236 yards and a touchdown versus the Colts in Week 8. After losing a 22-yard touchdown to Kenny Britt on an iffy offensive pass interference call, Hasselbeck dropped one in the bucket for a 23-yard score to Kendall Wright. Although Hasselbeck was accurate with a 75.8 completion percentage, 8.1 yards per attempt and 110.7 passer rating, he missed an open Jared Cook down the seam on the potential game-winning touchdown late in the fourth quarter. He's done enough to keep the job for another week, but the coaching staff may use the loss as a reason to re-install Jake Locker as the Week 9 starter versus the Bears.

Titans coach Mike Munchak confirmed Monday that Matt Hasselbeck is expected to start at quarterback in Week 8 against the Colts. Jake Locker's shoulder needs one more week, although Hasselbeck's success under center may have plenty to do with it. Hasselbeck has engineered back-to-back wins over the Steelers and Bills, averaging under 6.5 yards per attempt but committing just one turnover and largely keeping the offense moving. Hasselbeck simply gives Tennessee more stability at this point. The sledding gets much tougher after the Colts game with Chicago and Miami's defenses on deck, so it will be interesting to see whether the Titans throw Locker back into that fire should Hasselbeck pull out a third straight victory. Tennessee can move to 4-4 and second place in the AFC South with a win over Indy.

Matt Hasselbeck completed 22-of-33 passes for 205 yards with one touchdown and no interceptions in the Titans' Week 7 win over the Bills. Hasselbeck managed the game reasonably well despite a ton of pressure from the Bills' beleaguered front seven. He resorted to dinks and dunks while riding Chris Johnson to a win. Even though Hasselbeck has led the Titans to two straight wins, Jake Locker (shoulder) is fully expected to get the starting gig back in Week 8. The Titans know there's a ton more upside in the youngster's mammoth arm and athletic legs.

Titans coach Mike Munchak announced Monday that Matt Hasselbeck will start at quarterback in Week 7 against the Bills. Munchak insisted Jake Locker remains the Titans' starter when healthy, but he'll get one more week to rest his twice-dislocated shoulder. The Titans believe Locker is on track to start in Week 8 against Indianapolis. 37-year-old Hasselbeck is a crafty veteran capable of getting the football to Kenny Britt, which is pretty much all fantasy owners can ask for. Hasselbeck just isn't much of a standalone fantasy QB, even against a bad Buffalo defense. On the season, he has a 4:4 TD-to-INT ratio, 60.2-percent completion rate, and 5.9 YPA in four appearances (two starts).

Jim Wyatt of the Nashville Tennessean expects Matt Hasselbeck to receive "at least" one more start following Thursday night's win over Pittsburgh. The Titans can justify continuing to hold Jake Locker (shoulder) out of the starting lineup by pushing the idea that he isn't healthy yet. Hasselbeck's talent level isn't anywhere near Locker's at age 37, but he kept the offense moving against the Steelers and make some crafty, veteran plays. It's debatable which quarterback gives the Titans a better chance of getting Kenny Britt the ball.

Matt Hasselbeck completed 25-of-44 passes for 290 yards, one touchdown, and one interception in Tennessee's Week 6 victory over the Steelers on Thursday night. Hasselbeck was very steady on Thursday night, and he had potential for more yards if not for some disconnect with his receivers. He doesn't offer much when throwing further than 10-15 yards down the field, but he's a pro when it comes to quick-hitters and check-downs. After an ugly Week 5 performance against the Vikings that saw Hasselbeck throw for just 200 yards on 46 attempts, the offense had a nice bounce-back effort. Jake Locker (left shoulder) will look to return against the Bills in Week 7, but if not, it's still a nice matchup for Tennessee.

Matt Hasselbeck is expected to start Sunday's Week 5 game against the Vikings. Jake Locker hurt his left shoulder for the second time in four weeks. Hasselbeck started 16 games a year ago, averaging 223.2 yards to go with 18 touchdowns and 14 interceptions. His arm strength is really lacking at age 37, but the veteran reads defenses and feels out a pocket better than Locker. Considering the Vikings are giving up just 3.27 YPC on the ground this season, the Titans might be forced to go to the air. Hasselbeck is on the desperation QB2 radar.
