Tank member, gridguru, wrote a fantastic 'The Art of the Deal' article many moons ago and it correctly gets bumped up every August. For methods on how to go about handling the deal, please refer to that article. I will focus more on the execution of the deal #1) Focus on your team depth, identify your strength. This is a crucial step as you will be using this depth to upgrade another position. In most of my team's cases, it's QB. I targeted Matt Stafford in all of my leagues and was successful in obtaining him. However, he is my backup to Tom Brady, Tony Romo, and Michael Vick respectively. Now, I'm hesitant to trade Stafford in my Romo and Vick owned leagues because both of them got banged up in Week 2 and in Romo's case most of his primary weapons are hurt too. However, Brady looks to be well on his way to a super star season. Stafford would best benefit that team by upgrading another piece of it, especially because I was successful in obtaining Sam Bradford as my 3rd quarterback. #2) Identify opposing teams with a weakness at your position of strength. In my case, being the Brady, Stafford, and Bradford owner I am going to be looking for teams that drafted Michael Vick, Peyton Manning, Matt Schaub, ,Tony Romo, and those that went the 'value' route and did not connect on Cam Newton or Ryan Fitzpatrick. These are the teams you will be negotiating with, by limiting the pool of potential suitors you will be more effective in working with them to complete a deal that makes both parties happy. #3) Identify your weakness and see if one of the teams identified above is strong at that position. If there's a qualifier then do not even bother with the others you identified above because the motivation will be there on both sides to get something done, which both greatly increases your chances of completing a deal and minimizes the amount of time you must spend to complete it so you can get back to doing what your employer pays you to do ;) In my case, I have some wide receiver problems as my starting lineup of Larry Fitzgerald, Wes Welker, Jordy Nelson, and Mario Manningham (we can start 4 wide receivers) is solid but I have major depth issues due to Peyton Manning's injury as my backups are Austin Collie and Pierre Garcon. Speaking of Manning, the team that drafted Manning backed him up with Josh Freeman (who has looked abysmal), but he also drafted Vincent Jackson, Jeremy Maclin, Steve Smith, and Kenny Britt. #4) If you don't have a qualifier for the ...
