Running Wild
Carnell Williams should get the Week 2 start for the Rams after Steven Jackson injured his quad in the first quarter last Sunday. This makes him the top waiver pick up of the week, especially after the solid game he had in the season opener. Cadillac ran for 91 yards on 19 carries and also chipped in five receptions for 49 yards. He didn't find the end zone, but getting 25 touches in one game is always a good thing for fantasy owners. There is an outside chance that Jackson will play, but it's a long shot. Williams will get the lion's share of the work load in Week 2 against a Giants defense that is struggling with injuries right now. He's a must start that should surpass 100 totals yards for the second straight week.
Although James Starks didn't get the start in Week 1 for the Packers he definitely out played Ryan Grant and it shouldn't be long before he takes over the job. The second year back out of Buffalo received 12 carries (compared to nine from Grant) and ran for 57 yards, including a very impressive 17-yard touchdown. He didn't get any passes thrown his way out of the backfield, but that's not a big issue, seeing that Green Bay has so many receiving options. Starks is a tough runner that lives between the tackles and gets those extra yards after contact that Grant simply doesn't get. He has a great matchup this week against Carolina and I fully expect Starks to get more than the 12 carries he got in Week 1. He could be one of the big sleepers of 2011 and is off to a good start so keep him in your lineup and don't be surprised if he quietly gets you double digit points every week.
San Diego's duel running threat of Ryan Mathews and Mike Tolbert was in full effect in Week 1 and this trend should continue as long as both remain healthy. Mathews put together a 118 total yard performance, rushing for 45 yards on 12 carries and making three catches that covered 73 more yards. Tolbert had 93 total yards, but he did all the scoring, catching two touchdowns and running for another. He did get a little banged up at the end of the game, but should be fine for Sunday. Tolbert is obviously the better option in fantasy just because he gets the goal line carries and most of the scores, but Mathews still should be started in almost all formats. The Charger offense is one of the best in the league and there will be plenty of opportunities for both backs to showcase their talents. Traveling to New England this week is a tough matchup, but I would ...
