Thomas brought in nine of 11 targets for 77 yards and a touchdown in the Commanders' 40-20 loss to the Bears on Thursday night. He also lost a fumble.
EDGE Analysis
The veteran tight end was in vintage form during a game in which Sam Howell was forced to put the ball up 51 times, leading the Commanders in receptions, receiving yards and targets. Thomas' lost fumble didn't lead to any Bears points, and his catch total for the night actually matched the one he came in with for the entire season. With his first big game of the campaign under his belt, Thomas will next take aim at the Falcons in a Week 6 road matchup on Sunday, Oct. 15.

Thomas secured all three of his targets for 41 yards in Sunday's 34-31 overtime loss to the Eagles.
EDGE Analysis
Thomas returned from a concussion for Sunday's matchup with the Eagles and returned to his usual role as the team's top tight end. The veteran played 79 percent of Washington's offensive snaps, far ahead of both John Bates and Cole Turner. Though his final line wasn't especially exciting, Thomas' involvement in the offense in his return was a promising sight. Thomas gets a favorable matchup in Week 5, when the Commanders take on a struggling Bears pass defense in a Thursday night game.

Thomas (concussion) will be available to play Sunday against the Eagles, Matthew Paras of The Washington Times reports.
EDGE Analysis
After missing a week of practice and one game, Thomas returned to limited practice participation Wednesday before upgrading to full activity Thursday. He now heads into Sunday without an injury designation, pushing fellow Washington tight ends Cole Turner and John Bates back to complementary roles. Thomas surprisingly had a team-high 11 targets through his six quarters of play this season before exiting early with the concussion Week 2, though in the long run, he probably won't get as many looks as wideouts Terry McLaurin or Jahan Dotson. Challenging slot man Curtis Samuel to be third on the team in targets is a more reasonable goal for the 32-year-old tight end.

Thomas (concussion) practiced fully Thursday.
EDGE Analysis
It's unclear if Thomas has made his way through the five phases of the concussion protocol, but he told Sam Fortier of The Washington Post after Wednesday's limited session that he expects to return to action Sunday at Philadelphia. The Commanders may clear up Thomas' status for Week 4 upon the release of Friday's injury report, but he appears on pace to make his first appearance since Week 2 this weekend.

Thomas (concussion) was a limited practice participant Wednesday and said afterward he expects to play in Sunday's game against Philadelphia, Sam Fortier of The Washington Post reports.
EDGE Analysis
Thomas missed the 37-3 loss to Buffalo on Sunday, leaving Cole Turner and John Bates in a timeshare. Bates still figures to have a blocking role if Thomas is back, while Turner's usefulness would be minimized with the return of a more experienced receiving-minded TE. Thomas drew 11 targets through the first six quarters of play this season before suffering a concussion Week 2.

Thomas (concussion) has been ruled out for Sunday's game against Buffalo, Ben Standig of The Athletic reports.
EDGE Analysis
Thomas didn't practice this week after an early exit from last Sunday's 35-33 win over Denver. He's seen 11 targets in six quarters of action this season, but there's no guarantee of similar involvement for the backup tight ends with both John Bates and Cole Turner likely to play a lot.

Thomas (concussion) officially didn't practice Thursday.
EDGE Analysis
This comes as no surprise after Thomas wasn't seen during the media-access portion of the session. He'll thus have just one more chance to show that he's progressing through the concussion protocol, which he's currently in due to a helmet-to-helmet hit that he took from Broncos safety Kareem Jackson this past Sunday. If Thomas is unable to suit up Week 3 against the Bills, John Bates and Cole Turner will be the Commanders' primary tight ends this Sunday.

Thomas (concussion) wasn't spotted during the open part of Thursday's practice, John Keim of ESPN.com reports.
EDGE Analysis
Assuming he goes down as a non-participant for a second consecutive session, Thomas seemingly doesn't have enough time to make his way through the concussion protocol and be able to suit up Sunday against the Bills. If that comes to pass, the Commanders will turn to John Bates and Cole Turner at tight end for as long as Thomas is sidelined.

Thomas (concussion) isn't practicing Wednesday, Nicki Jhabvala of The Washington Post reports.
EDGE Analysis
Thomas entered the concussion protocol late in the second quarter of Sunday's 35-33 win over Denver after safety Kareem Jackson was ejected for hitting him in the helmet at the end of a touchdown catch. Thomas is dealing with his first documented concussion since entering the NFL in 2014, but he's still uncertain to be fully cleared ahead of Sunday's matchup with Buffalo. Both John Bates and Cole Turner picked up more playing time once Thomas exited this past Sunday's game, with Bates recording a career-high 46 receiving yards even as Turner took many of the snaps in clear passing situations.

Thomas (concussion) won't return to Sunday's game in Denver.
EDGE Analysis
Thomas was on the receiving end of a helmet-to-helmet hit from Broncos safety Kareem Jackson during his touchdown catch late in the second quarter. With the team ruling him out, Thomas will finish Week 2 with two catches (on three targets) for 22 yards and one touchdown. He'll now be subject to the protocol for head injuries, which will determine whether or not he'll be available next Sunday against the Bills. John Bates and Cole Turner are the next players up at TE for the Commanders.
