Jets RB/FB Lex Hilliard needs season-ending surgery to repair a broken scapula. Hilliard sustained the injury during Tuesday's practice. He was expected to lose out to seventh-round rookie Tommy Bohanon for the fullback/special teams role anyway. Hilliard, 29, will collect his full $715,000 base salary this season and then hit the open market in March.

Jets re-signed RB Lex Hilliard to a one-year contract. The Jets stem their tide of free agent losses with a special teamer they signed off the street in October. The soon-to-be 29 year old will fight for a roster spot in camp.

Jets signed RB Lex Hilliard. Hilliard has been primarily a special teamer throughout his career. He's unlikely to be higher than fourth or fifth on the depth chart at running back.

Patriots signed RB Lex Hilliard and waived C Matt Tennant. Hilliard has been primarily a special teamer throughout his three-year career with the Dolphins. His addition could be a sign that Shane Vereen (foot) is in danger of missing the season opener.

Vikings released RB Lex Hilliard. It speaks more about the progress of Jordan Todman than it does Adrian Peterson's knee rehab. Todman will be the No. 3 running back on paper and could be the No. 2 guy if Peterson doesn't play a major role in Week 1.

According to the Minneapolis Star-Tribune, Vikings RB Lex Hilliard is "tightening his grip" on the No. 3 job. Hilliard is a 28-year-old journeyman who doesn't offer a ton at tailback, but is versatile enough to chip in at fullback and on special teams. He currently holds the edge on Jordan Todman, who is dealing with a sprained ankle. With Adrian Peterson clear of the active/PUP list, Hillard won't see many offensive snaps this season.

Vikings agreed to terms with RB Lex Hilliard, formerly of the Dolphins. A versatile, No. 3-running back type, Hilliard goes 5-foot-11, 240 and can play fullback, tailback, and contribute on special teams. He only earned 39 carries in three seasons with the Fins, averaging 3.3 yards per rush. Hilliard will compete for a roster spot behind Adrian Peterson and Toby Gerhart.

Dolphins did not tender restricted free agent RB Lex Hilliard. Though he was a favorite of the Tony Sparano coaching staff, Hilliard never assumed more than a special teams role in Miami. His exit gives CFL import Jerome Messam a better chance to make the 2012 roster.

Lex Hilliard was not used as the Dolphins' goal-line back in Sunday's loss to the Giants. For some unknown reason, the Dolphins identified Steve Slaton as their goal-line back and used him in that role three times. That left Hilliard with two touches for 11 total yards. It shows an extreme lack of confidence from the coaches in Hilliard.
