Bell was elevated from the practice squad Saturday.
EDGE Analysis
Bell surprisingly wasn't elevated ahead of the Week 5 Monday night contest, but he'll make his return to the Ravens roster against the Chargers on Sunday. The veteran back did little in his first opportunity back in Week 4, earning just four carries while failing to catch his lone target. It's hard to imagine a larger workload with the full complement of Ravens backs available such as Latavius Murray, Ty'Son Williams and Devonta Freeman.

The Ravens won't elevate Bell from the practice squad ahead of Monday's game against the Colts, Jamison Hensley of ESPN.com reports.
EDGE Analysis
Bell was summoned from the practice squad for his Ravens debut in the Week 4 win over Denver, playing 27 percent of the offensive snaps in the victory while carrying four times for 11 yards and drawing an incomplete target. The veteran apparently didn't make enough of an impression to get another call-up for Week 5, as the Ravens will instead have Ty'Son Williams -- who was inactive Week 4 -- serve as the third option out of the backfield behind Latavius Murray and Devonta Freeman.

Bell reverted to Baltimore's practice squad Monday.
EDGE Analysis
Bell was elevated from the practice squad for Sunday's win over the Broncos, and he had four carries for 11 yards and failed to catch his lone target while playing 20 offensive snaps. It was a solid debut for the veteran with Baltimore, as only Latavius Murray was more involved at running back. Bell can be elevated from the practice squad for one more game before the Ravens need to make a decision on whether to give him a roster spot.

Bell had four carries for 11 yards in his Baltimore debut Sunday against the Broncos and did not reel in his lone target.
EDGE Analysis
Baltimore elevated Bell from the practice squad and made Ty'Son Williams a healthy scratch. Bell played 20 snaps, which ranked second on the team among running backs behind Latavius Murray and ahead of Devonta Freeman. Still, Bell wasn't heavily utilized nor was he particularly effective. He could see his role expand as he gets more acclimated with the offense, but it's no guarantee at this stage. Baltimore hosts Indianapolis on Monday Night Football in Week 5.

Bell is expected to be active for Sunday's game against the Broncos after the Ravens elevated him from their practice squad Saturday, Jamison Hensley of ESPN.com reports.
EDGE Analysis
Assuming that's the case, the 29-year-old will play in his first NFL game since the 2020 postseason, when he was a member of the Chiefs. Bell will be part of a crowded backfield that includes Ty'Son Williams, Latavius Murray and Devonta Freeman, and it's unclear if the Ravens plan to make any of those three backs inactive for Week 4. Freeman is the most likely candidate to sit out if Baltimore keeps only three backs active, but even in that scenario, Bell would likely be in store for a light role as part of a committee. Williams has paced the backfield in snaps in each of the Ravens' first three contests, but he's hovered between modest 47 and 51 percent snap shares in each of those games.

Bell was elevated from the practice squad Saturday.
EDGE Analysis
This move felt preordained after the veteran signed with the Ravens back in early September. It'll be interesting to see what kind of workload, if any, Bell will have considering the Ravens have a trio of capable running backs in Ty'Son Williams, Latavius Murray and Devonta Freeman. It's likely the Ravens will simply have Bell work back into game shape given the aforementioned options ahead of him, but the upside scenario is certainly tantalizing given Bell's prowess as a multi-dimensional threat out of the backfield.

Bell wasn't promoted to the Ravens' active roster in advance of Monday night's game against the Raiders, Jamison Hensley of ESPN.com reports.
EDGE Analysis
The same applies to fellow practice squad member Devonta Freeman, and as a result Ty'Son Williams, Latavius Murray and Trenton Cannon will handle the Ravens' Week 1 running back duties. Jeff Zrebiec of The Athletic noted Sunday that Bell still is working his way into game shape, but once the veteran back is up to speed both physically and in terms of Baltimore's playbook, he could enter the the team's backfield mix, though if so he'd likely work in a complementary role, at least initially.

Bell likely will be looking at a small workload if he's called up from Baltimore's practice squad for Monday's game at Las Vegas, Jonas Shaffer of The Baltimore Sun reports.
EDGE Analysis
Ty'Son Williams, a 2020 UDFA, is the favorite to lead Baltimore's backfield in the opener, having been with the organization for more than a year now. However, he's never played in a regular-season game, while Bell and recent signing Latavius Murray both offer a wealth of NFL experience. Then there's Trenton Cannon, the third RB on the active roster, but he's mostly a special teams guy or maybe an option for passing downs. While there are still plenty of obstacles standing between Bell and a return to fantasy relevance at age 29, this is about the best opportunity he could've hoped for, competing with Williams and Murray after the Ravens lost each of J.K. Dobbins (knee), Justice Hill (Achilles) and Gus Edwards (knee) to season-ending injuries. Coach John Harbaugh said Bell is in excellent shape but still needs to get in "football shape," so any hope for a significant workload probably will need to be put on hold for Week 2 and beyond. Williams and Murray are the favorites for touches and snaps Monday night.

Bell's chances of being promoted from the Ravens' practice squad to the active roster ahead of Monday's season opener at Las Vegas increased Thursday after fellow running back Gus Edwards sustained what appeared to be a serious non-contact knee injury, Jeff Zrebiec of The Athletic reports.
EDGE Analysis
Edwards is scheduled to undergo further testing before the severity of his injury is known, but according to Ian Rapoport of NFL Network, Baltimore fears its projected top back may have sustained a torn ACL. If the injury is confirmed, Edwards would become the third Baltimore running back to sustain a season-ending injury before Week 1, joining J.K. Dobbins (knee) and Justice Hill (Achilles). Even if Edwards' injury proves to be less significant, he looks doubtful to play Monday against Las Vegas, so Bell should be in line for a promotion to the active roster as the Ravens look to restore depth at the position. The two-time first-team All-Pro selection has seen his effectiveness wane since he sat out the 2018 season as a member of the Steelers, but Bell could nonetheless be in store for a meaningful role right out of the gate if Edwards misses time. At the moment, the only healthy backs on the roster are 2020 undrafted free agent Ty'Son Williams, who has yet to log a regular-season snap, and Trent Cannon, who best profiles as a No. 3 back/special-teams contributor.

Coach John Harbaugh noted Thursday that there's a chance Bell could be promoted to the Ravens' active roster ahead of Monday night's game against the Raiders.
EDGE Analysis
The 29-year-old back is coming off a 2020 season (in which he played two games for the Jets and nine for the Chiefs) that resulted in a 82-328-2 rushing stat line and 16 catches for 138 yards for the one-time fantasy stalwart. Though Trenton Cannon was signed to the team's 53-man roster to provide immediate depth behind Gus Edwards and Ty'Son Williams, it's not hard to imagine Bell -- who practiced with the Ravens on Wednesday -- earning a promotion in the coming days. In such a scenario, he could parlay his pass-catching ability into a complementary role in Baltimore's offense once he's up to speed with the team's playbook.
