Lestar Jean has earned the nickname "Big Play" for his OTA performances, and WRs coach Larry Kirksey says Jean has already grasped all three receiver positions. Jean's knowledge of all three spots suggests he could be a threat to Kevin Walter, and isn't just behind Andre Johnson on the depth chart. "He has engulfed himself in the offense," Kirksey said. "His attention to detail is excellent." Kirksey went so far as to compare Johnson and Jean to a couple of Hall of Famers: "I remember Terrell Owens watching and following Jerry Rice. After awhile, I couldn't tell the difference between the two guys on the field. That's a special situation, but hopefully this will be something like the same scenario."

With Andre Johnson (knee scope) resting, Lestar Jean saw first-team action at Texans OTA practice on Monday. Coach Gary Kubiak confirmed that Jean has an "excellent opportunity" to earn a spot in Houston's three-wide offense. A 2011 camp and preseason star, Jean is getting the first crack to replace Jacoby Jones, ahead of rookies Keshawn Martin and DeVier Posey. Johnson and Kevin Walter will be the Texans' starters.

Texans WR Lestar Jean was medically cleared from last year's left shoulder injury when the team started its voluntary workout program in mid-April. The Texans never revealed the extent of the injury. Lestar (pronounced leh-STAR) was poised to earn a roster spot with a strong camp and exhibition season before he landed on injured reserve in late August. Coach Gary Kubiak recently suggested Jean will compete for the No. 3 receiver job following Jacoby Jones' release.

Coach Gary Kubiak singled out Lestar Jean as a receiver to keep an eye on following Jacoby Jones' release Tuesday. "We've added a couple of receivers to our team," Kubiak said. "We've got a couple of kids that we think a lot of, Lestar Jean being number one." Undrafted out of Florida Atlantic, Jean was a training camp sensation before suffering an injury in preseason action last August. He'll compete for the third receiver job with rookies DeVier Posey and Keshawn Martin.

Texans placed WR Lestar Jean (shoulder) on injured reserve, ending his season. A training camp and preseason star as an undrafted free agent out of Florida Atlantic, Jean sustained a season-ending shoulder injury against the 49ers. Terrence Toliver, Jeff Maehl, and Dorin Dickerson will fight it out with newly signed veteran Bryant Johnson for the No. 4 receiver job.
