Smith (foot) did not participate in Friday's practice. Smith has missed several practices this week, and Friday's absence surely doesn't bode well for his chances of playing Sunday. Scott Chandler remains the No. 1 tight end in Buffalo, but if Smith doesn't suit up, look for No. 3 man Chris Gragg to see additional snaps.

Smith (foot) is not practicing Wednesday after missing Monday's practice as well, Joe Buscaglia of WGR Radio reports. The Bills head into Sunday's opener against the Bears in good health, with Smith the only player not practicing Wednesday. If he can't play this week, tight end Chris Gragg will likely be asked to take on a little more responsibility, though Scott Chandler is the clear-cut No. 1 on this team.

Smith (foot) will not play in Thursday's preseason finale against the Lions, Joe Buscaglia of WGR550.com reports. The Bills will probably be choosing two among a foursome of Smith, Tony Moeaki, Chris Gragg, and Dominique Jones for two TE spots behind Scott Chandler. With Moeaki also out hurt, the team will have some extra guesswork to put into the decision.

Bills TEs coach Pete Metzelaars admits Lee Smith has limited pass-catching skills. "(Smith) is a powerful man," Metzelaars said. "Now he has limitations the other way - the athleticism. So you have to find opportunities to use him in the passing game, where it's not - this guy's in, they're running every time." Smith's roster spot sounds secure after he ended his rookie season on injured reserve, but he'll remain well off the fantasy radar.

Bills placed TE Lee Smith (ankle) on injured reserve, ending his season. The fifth-round pick was carted off with the injury during Sunday's game against the Dolphins. Smith was considered a blocking prospect coming out of Marshall. His rookie season ends with four catches and 11 receiving yards.

Lee Smith is expected to start in place of TE Scott Chandler (ankle) this week. Smith recorded his first three catches of the season for 11 yards in last week's game. Drafted by the Pats to be Alge Crumpler's successor, Smith is a prototypical blocking specialist. He's not a recommended fantasy play against the Chargers.

Bills claimed TE Lee Smith off waivers from the Patriots. Coach Chan Gailey doesn't use his tight ends as receiving weapons, so this should be a nice fit. A fifth-round pick out of Marshall, Smith is purely a blocking specialist.

Patriots waived TE Lee Smith. He appears to have been beaten out for a roster spot by undrafted free agent Will Yeatman. A fifth-round pick last spring, Smith is a raw but powerful blocker whom the Pats undoubtedly hope to sign to their practice squad.
