Philips recorded one reception on four targets for 11 yards in Saturday's preseason game against Tampa Bay.
EDGE Analysis
Philips struggled to get on the same page with Malik Willis, though he did manage the seventh-longest offensive play for the Titans on the day. He also served as Tennessee's punt returner and ripped off returns of 35, 27 and 15 yards. Philips has impressed as a slot receiver in camp, so he immediately could make an impact in multiple facets of the game.

Philips has impressed in the slot during training camp and could open the season as Tennessee's starting slot receiver, John Glennon of SI.com reports.
EDGE Analysis
Gelnnon points out that Robert Woods (knee) and Nick Westbrook-Ikhine can both play the slot as well, but they could both be ticketed for roles on the outside if rookie first-round pick Treylon Burks (undisclosed) isn't ready to start right away. Philips, who was a fifth-round pick in the 2022 NFL Draft out of UCLA, is thus involved in an indirect competition for playing time with his rookie teammate.

Philips failed to bring in his only target and returned two punts for 16 yards in the Titans' 23-10 preseason loss to the Ravens on Thursday night.
EDGE Analysis
The rookie fifth-round pick drew the second target of the night on the opening drive from Malik Willis, but that was the extent of his involvement on offense. Philips did muster a 13-yard return when the Ravens were forced to punt on their first drive, yet he wasn't able to carry over any of the momentum he'd generated as a receiver in recent camp practices. The UCLA product will need to have much more of a presence on offense beginning with the Titans' next exhibition matchup against the Buccaneers a week from Saturday night to make his case for a roster spot.

Philips has been getting work on the first-team offense, with WRs coach Rob Moore noting Thursday that the rookie has "made some plays" and "immersed himself in the playbook,", Buck Reising of 104.5 The Zone reports.
EDGE Analysis
Terry McCormick of TitanInsider.com reported Tuesday that Philips was beginning to get some slot work with the first unit. He's off to a great start at training camp, by all accounts, but it's hard to see the fantasy upside for a rookie fifth-round pick slot specialist in a run-first offense with a mid-range starting quarterback. A lot would need to go wrong for the Titans for Philips to see more than 3-4 targets per game.

Philips impressed the Titans with his route running and short-area quickness during offseason practices, Jim Wyatt of the team's official site reports.
EDGE Analysis
Philips stands at only 5-foot-11 and 189 pounds, so he'll almost certainly be limited to reps in the slot throughout his career. However, the rookie showed some burst at the combine and has been able to carry that athleticism onto the practice field this offseason. Both Ryan Tannehill and receivers coach Rob Moore remarked about Philips' ability to run precise routes and his short-area quickness, while also acknowledging that he has a lot of work to do to prove he can be productive in the NFL. As a fifth-round pick, Philips will be fighting for a roster spot throughout training camp.

The Titans selected Philips in the fifth round of the 2022 NFL Draft, 163rd overall.
EDGE Analysis
Philips is only a slot receiver and isn't exactly a memorable prospect in that one capacity either, but he was certainly a good collegiate receiver at UCLA and probably has something to offer an NFL offense. At 5-foot-11 and 189 pounds, Philips quietly showed good burst at the combine, logging a 1.55-second 10-yard dash and 124-inch broad jump, and he might have an angle to be the Titans' lead slot specialist right away.
