Herbert rushed two times for three yards and a touchdown along with two catches for four yards in the Bears' 19-13 loss to the Texans on Sunday.
EDGE Analysis
Herbert played just nine percent of the snaps, and other than the short touchdown he scored, he was ineffective on limited work. In terms of playing time, Herbert played 20 percent fewer snaps than Travis Homer, as Homer has emerged as the No. 2 running back over the first two games. Unless Herbert sees more playing time, he'll be difficult to trust in fantasy lineups.

Herbert rushed twice for four yards in the Bears' 24-17 win over the Titans on Sunday.
EDGE Analysis
With Roschon Johnson listed as a healthy scratch, Herbert served in a backfield committee. Herbert joined Travis Homer and wide receiver Velus Jones as teammates who also had two carries each behind starter D'Andre Swift. Based on Week 1 usage, it appears that Herbert may not be in line for significant work unless other running backs on the team miss time.

Herbert started Saturday's preseason win over the Bengals and took five carries for 31 yards in the first half.
EDGE Analysis
D'Andre Swift was held out entirely after playing just two snaps in the preseason opener. It's a signal that the Bears consider Swift important and want to protect him, but Herbert at least has taken advantage of his extended playing time with the first-string offense this preseason, taking 17 carries for 97 yards in three appearances (including the Hall of Fame Game). He hasn't seen any targets, in part because Travis Homer has replaced him for some of the clear passing downs (Roschon Johnson didn't play the past two weeks, perhaps because of a minor injury). The way things have played out so far makes it a bit tricky to get a read on Chicago's backfield, apart from Swift being the lead guy. There have been rumors about the Bears showcasing Herbert for a potential trade, but it might just be that they like him to mix in behind Swift on early downs.

Herbert rushed nine times for 31 yards and wasn't targeted in Saturday's 33-6 preseason win over the Bills.
EDGE Analysis
D'Andre Swift got two of the first three touches among Chicago's running backs and took a screen pass 42 yards before ceding the next eight touches to Herbert while the Bears' starters were in the game. Roschon Johnson didn't play against Buffalo after starting the Hall of Fame Game last week, so it remains unclear where Herbert stands relative to Johnson in a backfield that will likely be led by Swift but have room left over for at least one more meaningful contributor. Herbert will look to bolster his case for regular-season playing time in next Saturday's preseason game against the Bengals.

Herbert rushed four times for 35 yards in the Bears' 21-17 preseason win over the Texans on Thursday.
EDGE Analysis
Herbert was the second Bears running back to log a carry behind Roschon Johnson, who handled all the ground work on Chicago's first drive. Herbert ripped off a 19-yard gain on his third carry and immediately followed it up with a nine-yard scamper on the next play, showcasing some of the talent that helped him to three 100-yard performances a season ago. The team's deep running corps -- now helmed by D'Andre Swift, who wasn't active Thursday -- may not be the best fit for Herbert, who could be a trade candidate if he continues to thrive over the remainder of preseason.

With D'Andre Swift signed this offseason and Roschon Johnson entering his second season, Herbert is viewed as potential trade bait, Kevin Fishbain of The Athletic reports.
EDGE Analysis
Herbert is entering the final year of his rookie deal that is set to pay him a non-guaranteed $1.055 million salary, and the coaching staff is high on Johnson headed into his second season after he was taken in the fourth round of the NFL Draft last year. Swift inked a three-year, $24 million deal in March. After leading the NFL averaging 5.7 yards per carry in 2022, Herbert battled ankle and back issues last year, missing five games on injured reserve in the middle of the season. Travis Homer is also on the roster as a special teams ace. Herbert doesn't play special teams.

Herbert is part of a backfield that's set to add D'Andre Swift on a three-year, $24 million contract, Mike Garafolo of NFL Network reports.
EDGE Analysis
Herbert has outperformed his draft slot since the Bears took him in the sixth round in 2021, averaging 4.9 yards on 364 carries. He's typically worked in timeshares and has just 43 receptions in 42 games, and it's not exactly surprising to see the cap-flush Bears brining in a more versatile running back. This isn't the worst outcome for Herbert's value given that the Bears were previously rumored to have interest in Saquon Barkley -- who is joining the Eagles -- but it does leave Herbert with a lot of snap/touch competition for the final year of his rookie contract, competing against Swift and 2023 fourth-round pick Roschon Johnson.

Herbert rushed 12 times for 28 yards and caught two passes for 13 yards in the Bears' 17-9 loss to the Packers on Sunday.
EDGE Analysis
Herbert came into Week 18 having posted at least 121 scrimmage yards in each of his last two games. Facing a middling Packers defense, Herbert was unable to help Chicago sustain consistent offense. In 12 games played this season, Herbert rushed for 583 yards and two touchdowns and added 18 receptions for 121 yards and another score. With two years left on his rookie contract, the Bears will need to decide if Herbert can be their lead back or if he's best used as part of a committee.

Herbert (back/personal) is active for Sunday's game against the Packers.
EDGE Analysis
Reports earlier Sunday indicated Herbert was strongly trending toward active status, and that is now official. With D'Onta Foreman a healthy scratch for a second consecutive week, Herbert should once again serve as the clear lead back for Chicago, with rookie Roschon Johnson holding down his usual complementary role.

Herbert (back/personal) is expected to play in Sunday's game against the Packers, Ian Rapoport of NFL Network reports.
EDGE Analysis
Herbert remains listed as questionable for the contest, but he looks like he'll be formally cleared to play when the Bears release their inactive list approximately 90 minutes prior to Sunday's 4:25 p.m. ET kickoff. He was added to the Bears' Week 18 injury report Thursday after practicing as a limited participant and then missed Friday's practice entirely, but the expectation is that Herbert will be ready to handle the lead role out of the backfield for Chicago. Herbert has delivered his best two rushing performances of the season over the past two weeks in wins over Arizona and Atlanta, carrying 38 times for 236 yards and two touchdowns.
