Thompkins, who caught 32 passes for 466 yards and four touchdowns for the Patriots as a rookie in 2013, was cut by the team last October when linebacking depth was needed. At the time, the team was hoping that Thompkins would go unclaimed on waivers, thus allowing him to sign on with New England's practice squad. He ended up playing in 12 games for the Raiders, recording 15 catches for 209 yards in the process. Now that he's back with the Patriots' organization, it's not hard to imagine Thompkins being promoted to the team's active roster down the road.

Thompkins was waived by the Raiders on Monday, Adam Caplan of ESPN reports.

Thompkins has been deemed expendable in a suddenly deep corps of wideouts, which includes Michael Crabtree, Amari Cooper, Andre Holmes (hand), Brice Butler (undisclosed), and Seth Roberts. If Thompkins passes through waivers unclaimed, the Raiders could offer him a spot on the practice squad in the near future.

Thompkins caught five passes on seven targets for 90 yards in Sunday's 26-24 win over the Bills. Quarterback Derek Carr didn't throw a pass Thompkins' way in the team's previous two games, but he looked for the second-year wideout a team-high seven times Sunday. Thompkins responded by posting the second-highest yardage total of his career, more yards than he racked up in his previous seven games combined. The 26-year-old may have earned more snaps with this performance, but he'll still be nothing more than a daily/deep-league dart in Week 17.

Thompkins caught two passes on three targets for a team-high 47 yards in Sunday's 13-6 loss to the Chargers. Thompkins' 35-yard reception midway through the fourth quarter set up a field goal and kept the Raiders alive, possibly earning him some extra snaps in the weeks ahead, but he's still behind James Jones, Andre Holmes and even Mychal Rivera in the pecking order. The Raiders face the top-ranked Chiefs pass defense (201.2 YPG) in Week 12.

Thompkins (personal) is active for Sunday's game versus the Broncos. Thompkins has missed practice a handful of times the past two weeks due to a personal concern, but his availability on Game Day hasn't been in question. Although he's been utilized in a limited basis since the Raiders claimed him off waivers in early October, his output during the last two outings -- five receptions (on 10 targets) for 42 yards and one carry for seven yards -- seems to ensure utility in deeper leagues.

Though Thompkins (personal) did not practice Friday, he is listed as probable for Sunday's game against the Broncos, Raiders' official site reports. Thompkins' absence Friday was excused, so it looks like he will be available for Sunday's game, though given that he's coming off a one-catch, eight-yard effort in Week 9, he's not a high-percentage fantasy option this weekend.

Thompkins finished third on the team in targets, ahead of Andre Holmes (7), but was only able to muster 34 yards on a day when Derek Carr passed for 328. He's still learning the offense, but the Raiders are clearly high on Thompkins, as he played 30 snaps last week in just his second game with the club.
