Wimbley has elected to retire as an NFL player, the Tennessean reports. The 31-year-old linebacker, who was drafted by the Browns No. 13 overall in 2006, recorded 32 tackles for the Titans in 2014, his third and final season with the team.

The Titans have asked DE Kamerion Wimbley to take a pay cut. Wimbley is "mulling it over now." He's scheduled to earn $6 million in the third year of a five-year, $35 million contract but obviously isn't going to see it. If Wimbley declines, the Titans would likely release him and save $2.4 million against the cap while eating $5.4 million in dead money. The Titans' transition to a 3-4 defense is a reason for Wimbley to accept the cut and stay.

The Titans have yet to approach DE Kamerion Wimbley about a pay cut. Wimbley is in the third season of a five-year, $35 million contract and owed $6 million in 2014. The Titans view him as a fit for Ray Horton's hybrid 3-4, but Wimbley could be a candidate for a post June 1 cut if he's unwilling to restructure. Releasing Wimbley would free up $2.4 million in cap space, but leave $5.4 million in dead money.

Titans DE Kamerion Wimbley said he expects to be back with the team next season. Wimbley has failed to live up to expectations since signing a five-year, $35 million contract prior to the 2012 season. He was reduced to a situational pass rusher last year, posting just three sacks and 24 tackles. With the Titans expected to run a 3-4 scheme under DC Ray Horton, Wimbley could be brought back and moved to outside linebacker despite his $6 million base salary. Tennessee can save $2.4 million in cap space by cutting Wimbley this offseason.

Titans DE Kam Wimbley admitted at the Super Bowl Friday that he has "no idea" whether he'll return to Tennessee in 2014. We strongly doubt he will, seeing as the Titans could save $2.4 million in cap space by cutting ties with Wimbley's untenable contract. He only played 360 snaps in 2013, rotating in behind Ropati Pitoitua and Derrick Morgan. Still, Wimbley's best fit is as a 3-4 outside linebacker, and new DC Ray Horton will likely install a 3-4. Horton could give Wimbley a serious look.

Titans DE Kamerion Wimbley played just six defensive snaps in Week 3. Wimbley, who carries a $5.8 million cap number in the second year of a five-year, $35 million deal, has played just 59-of-192 defensive snaps after three games. The Titans said they were going to reduce Wimbley's snaps this season after he struggled against the run in 2012, but he hasn't been much more than a spectator. Fellow backups Keyunta Dawson (9) and Karl Klug (9) each played more snaps in Week 3. Wimbley is looking like a lock to be cut in 2014.

Titans coach Mike Munchak confirmed RE Kam Wimbley's role has "changed" and "been reduced" this season. He's going to be a sub-package rusher only behind LE Ropati Pitoitua and RE Derrick Morgan. The Titans were not pleased with how Wimbley performed as an every-down defensive end in 2012, particularly his run defense. Wimbley is probably in his last year with Tennessee. His 2014 base salary is $6 million.

Titans RE Kamerion Wimbley has been demoted out of the first-team defense at training camp. Derrick Morgan is the starting right end, and Ropati Pitoitua is the new left end. With Tennessee now employing a Seattle-like D-Line rotation, Wimbley will be used as a "sub-rusher" in nickel and dime packages, ala Bruce Irvin. It's an obvious concern for Wimbley's IDP value because he will make fewer tackles.

Titans RE Kamerion Wimbley destroyed the Cardinals in Thursday night's third preseason game, racking up two sacks and three tackles in just over two quarters of action. He had countless pressures that didn't qualify as "sacks," tormenting John Skelton. Wimbley has played primarily linebacker to this point in his career, so there were some questions about his position switch to right defensive end. While he was admittedly squaring off with a brutal Arizona pass protection group, Wimbley was nothing short of dominant in the regular season tuneup.
