Jones (undisclosed) was a non-participant in practice Wednesday, Jim Owczarski of the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel reports.

EDGE Analysis

Jones, expected to serve as the Packers' starting strong safety, sat out practice Wednesday due to an undisclosed injury in anticipation of the upcoming season-opener against the Bears on Sunday. There's no reason to believe that the 2017 second-rounder's injury is long-term, and Jones should be considered day-to-day until more information about the 23-year-old's injury is disclosed.

Jones assisted in one special teams tackle in Thursday's preason game against the Steelers.

EDGE Analysis

Jones suffered a head injury during the preseason opener last week but thankfully avoided a concussion. The 23-year-old didn't accumulate much for stats Thursday but still played 25 defensive snaps as he looks to lock down the starting job at strong safety.

Jones was not placed in concussion protocol after suffering a head injury in Thursday's preseason opener against the Titans, Michael Cohen of The Athletic Wisconsin reports.

EDGE Analysis

This is good news for the Packers, as a concussion could have left Jones in protocol for an indefinite amount of time. Now, while it's not a concussion, Jones still did suffer some sort of head injury, and the Green Bay likely won't be quick to rush the safety back to the field.

Jones was held back by an ankle injury during mandatory minicamp Tuesday, Rob Demovsky of ESPN.com reports.

EDGE Analysis

After a rookie season as a rotational safety racking up 71 tackles (60 solo), five pass breakups and two sacks, Jones is poised to take over as starting strong safety now that Morgan Burnett is gone. For the time being, Marwin Evans and Kentrell Brice will slot in for team drills. No timeline was given for Jones' recovery, but the injury doesn't appear long-term.

Jones projects to take over as the starting strong safety in Green Bay, Rob Demovsky

EDGE Analysis

Incumbent starter Morgan Burnett signed with the Steelers on Tuesday and Jones doesn't have any serious competition to fill the opening left behind. It won't be a huge transition for Jones considering he saw a lot of playing time as a rookie, and ultimately logged the second-most snaps among Green Bay safeties in 2017 due to Burnett's injuries. However, there's room for his playing time to expand considering Burnett had logged 948 snaps as the clear starter in 2016, which is quite a jump from the 735 snaps Jones logged this past season. Barring an injury of his own, the 2017 second-rounder seems poised to build upon his inaugural stat line of 71 tackles, two sacks, five pass breakups and one interception.

Jones totaled 71 tackles (60 solo), two sacks, and an interception over 16 games during his rookie season.

EDGE Analysis

Jones was relatively quiet in his rookie season, but he still managed to record the third most snaps of all Packers defenders, and he did post a 12-tackle, two-sack game in Week 3. If he plays an even bigger role in his second season, fantasy players in leagues using IDPs should recall he has that type of upside.

Jones (shoulder) practiced without limitations Wednesday, Rob Demovsky of ESPN.com reports.

EDGE Analysis

Jones was held out for a better half of Week 16's game against the Vikings, but he was still able to compile six tackles (five solo) during 30 defensive snaps. With injuries littering the Packers' secondary, Jones will likely have his number called for another hefty workload Sunday against the Lions.

Jones is questionable to return to Saturday's game against the Vikings with a shoulder injury.

EDGE Analysis

The rookie second-round pick has often played near-full workloads this season as the Packers battled injuries in their secondary. He's showed out at times, too, compiling 62 tackles and two sacks through 14 games. In his place, Jermaine Whitehead slot in at safety while CB Lenzy Pipkins has rotated into dime packages.

Jones had eight tackles (five solo) against the Lions on Monday.

EDGE Analysis

Racking up eight tackles makes Monday's performance Jones' second best of the season. The rookie second-round pick played all 68 defensive snaps Monday because Morgan Burnett (groin) was sitting out, and Burnett won't play against the Bears in Week 10, so similar production should be expected from Jones.

Jones notched three tackles during Thursday's 35-14 victory over the Bears.

EDGE Analysis

Even though Jones wasn't nearly as productive as he was last Sunday against the Bengals, he still gobbled up 51 snaps to show the expanded role he took on last week wasn't a fluke. Look for him to remain a key figure in the Packers' secondary moving forward with the possibility of him reaching IDP relevance before year's end.
