Jacobs carried the ball 12 times for 99 yards in Sunday's 28-10 loss to the Chiefs.
EDGE Analysis
The running game was the only element of the Raiders' offense to show much spark, but Jacobs saw his role shrink in the second half after the club fell behind. The rookie has more than justified his selection in the first round so far, piling up 212 scrimmage yards and two TDs through his first two NFL games.

Jacobs ran for 85 yards and two touchdowns on 23 carries, while adding a 28-yard reception on his only target during Monday's 24-16 win against Denver.
EDGE Analysis
After fielding eight carries per game last year in the Alabama backfield alongside Damien Harris and Najee Harris, the No. 24 overall pick was thrust into a bellcow role in Week 1, commanding 82.8 percent of the Raiders' running back touches. A Broncos defense that surrendered the eighth-most 20-plus yard runs last year was susceptible once again to the ground attack Monday night, allowing Jacobs to gain six-plus yards on five of his 23 carries, while twice seeing the powerful rookie back surge his way through stacked goal-line boxes to hit pay dirt from inside the five-yard line. In Week 2, Jacobs will go up against a Kansas City defense that faced just 16 rush attempts from the Jaguars on Sunday, but allowed an astronomical 5.1 yards per carry on those plays.

Coach Jon Gruden is pleased with Jacobs' performance, but the rookie said he left some yards on the field in Thursday's 33-26 preseason win over Arizona, Vic Tafur of The Athletic reports. "I like [Jacobs]," Gruden said. "He's really picked up the offense fast, he's improved in the passing game. We're really excited about him."
EDGE Analysis
Jacobs took four carries for 21 yards in his pro debut, getting all of his work within the first five snaps of the game. He believes he missed some opportunities to rip off a long run, yet also acknowledged that the game has "slowed down" for him after a few weeks of practice in training camp. The first-round pick is primed for the lead role in Oakland's backfield, but Jalen Richard will get playing time on passing downs, and Doug Martin could poach some carries. Development as a receiving threat, pass blocker and short-yardage back would go a long way toward helping Jacobs secure hefty workloads.

Jacobs rushed for 21 yards on four carries during Thursday's 33-26 win over Arizona.
EDGE Analysis
If there was any doubt of how heavily Oakland might lean on its rookie rusher, Jon Gruden provided a glimpse Thursday. Jacobs ran the ball on four of Oakland's first five plays, including gains of at least six yards on three consecutive carries. The Raiders have solid veteran depth behind him that may prevent him from enjoying a bell-cow level of carries, but it was a promising debut for the Alabama product.

Jacobs isn't expected to suit up for Saturday's preseason game versus the Rams, Matt Kawahara of the San Francisco Chronicle reports.
EDGE Analysis
Selected by the Raiders in the first round of the 2019 draft, Jacobs is in line to be the early down running back this fall and even has showed off his pass-catching chops during training camp. However, his pro debut will have to wait until Thursday at Arizona, at the earliest.

Jacobs has displayed "great hands" early on in training camp, Vic Tafur of The Athletic reports.
EDGE Analysis
The same training camp review noted that veteran back Doug Martin was "the most impressive runner" during the first week of camp, but we won't read to much into that, as the Raiders presumably didn't take Jacobs 24th overall in the 2019 NFL Draft to be a backup. What is worth noting is that if Jacobs proves that he can be an effective pass catcher/blocker -- and the early returns are good on that front -- it will help him stay on the field in more situations as a rookie and likely cut into Jalen Richard's target share.

Jacobs signed a four-year, $11.9 million contract that includes a fifth-year option with the Raiders on Tuesday, Michael Gehlken of the Las Vegas Review-Journal reports.
EDGE Analysis
There were some reports that Jacobs was in danger of missing the start of training camp since he was still unsigned, but the team apparently never had any doubt about reaching a deal in time. The 21-year-old figures to see a heavy workload in the backfield for the Raiders in his rookie campaign with the retirement of Marshawn Lynch and Isaiah Crowell (Achilles) out for the season.

Jacobs could miss the start of training camp thanks to an ongoing contract dispute, Vic Tafur of The Athletic reports.
EDGE Analysis
One of six 2019 first-round picks not to have signed a contract as of Saturday, there's reportedly a possibility Jacobs could miss the start of training camp while he negotiates for more signing bonus in his rookie contract. While the likes of Joey Bosa and Roquan Smith stand out as two recent highly drafted rookies to hold out for a better deal, it's more than likely the Raiders will come to terms with their running back prior to the start of training camp, particularly with HBO's Hard Knocks, which will follow the Raiders this preseason, set to premiere August 6.

Jacobs took some first-team reps during Tuesday's practice, Michael Gehlken of the Las Vegas Review-Journal reports.
EDGE Analysis
The Raiders are easing Jacobs into practice after he dealt with a minor hamstring injury earlier in the month. It's unclear if the issue was related to the groin injury that he was reportedly dealing with during the pre-draft process, but either way, it doesn't seem to be a major concern at the moment. The 24th overall draft pick doesn't have much competition for the lead role in Oakland, though Jalen Richard is still around to handle passing-down snaps. Doug Martin may also mix in with the first-team offense, at least during offseason practices.

Jacobs is facing less competition for carries after teammate Isaiah Crowell suffered a torn Achilles during a workout Monday, Adam Schefter of ESPN reports.
EDGE Analysis
Already a strong favorite to handle the lead role in Oakland's backfield, the 24th overall draft pick is now looking at minimal threats on early downs. The Raiders have Jalen Richard on hand for passing-down work and likely will add another veteran to replace Crowell, but the fallback option won't necessarily pose a real threat to Jacobs. While splitting carries at Alabama last season with Damien Harris and Najee Harris, Jacobs scored 14 touchdowns on 140 touches (120 carries, 20 catches) last season. Oddly enough, the transition from college to the NFL leaves Jacobs with weaker competition for both snaps and touches.
