Doctson was targeted once but not record a catch in the Redskins' second preseason game against the Bengals on Thursday.
EDGE Analysis
Doctson was targeted by starting quarterback Case Keenum on third down during the team's second offensive series. He made no other appearance on the stat sheet, though the first-team offense took the field for only three drives. The fourth-year receiver could lead lead the team in targets, though he took a step back in a disappointing 2018 campaign. Likely to be a free agent after the season, Doctson will have the motivation of earning a second contract in the NFL.

Doctson anticipates being a free agent next offseason, ESPN.com's John Keim reports. "I think I'm hitting free agency next year. I won't be the first, won't be the last," Docton said. "It's nothing to be sad about, be mad about. I'm not trying to prove nothing to nobody. Just trying to get chemistry with the quarterbacks."
EDGE Analysis
Washington declined the fifth-year option on its 2016 first-round pick, making an easy decision after Doctson managed just 6.8 yards per target and two touchdowns on 44 catches last season. The 26-year-old wideout presumably will open training camp with a spot in the starting offense, but he may face competition from rookie third-round pick Terry McLaurin or even 2018 UDFA Cam Sims. Coach Jay Gruden already put a damper on any fantasy-related optimism, noting that Doctson may struggle to draw targets in an offense that also needs to create opportunities for Paul Richardson, Trey Quinn, Jordan Reed and Chris Thompson. The team also hopes to lean heavily on its running game, led by Derrius Guice (knee) and Adrian Peterson.

The Redskins will not exercise the fifth-year option on Doctson's rookie contract, JP Finlay of NBC Sports Washington reports.
EDGE Analysis
The additions of Terry McLaurin (third round) and Kelvin Harmon (sixth) in last week's draft likely made this decision even easier, but it's nonetheless no surprise that the Redskins decided against keeping Doctson around at an expected $10 million price tag given his underwhelming production through three years. While it's possible the Achilles injury that limited him to two games his rookie year stunted Docton's professional development, Redskins quarterback barely averaged a 61.6 QB rating when targeting him last year and the TCU product's average of 2.9 yards after the catch was inferior to all but 154 other receivers in 2018. There might still be untapped upside to be found in Doctson if first-round quarterback Dwayne Haskins can take successfully take the reigns of the offense, but it's also possible the receiver is on his way out the door.

Doctson could face some competition after Washington selected wide receivers Terry McLaurin (third round) and Kelvin Harmon (sixth round) during the 2019 NFL Draft.
EDGE Analysis
Of course, Washington lost Jamison Crowder to the Jets earlier this offseason and didn't sign any veteran free agents. Neither rookie profiles as an instant impact player, but it isn't out of the question for one or both to challenge Doctson, who has managed just 1,100 receiving yards in 33 games since coming off the board 22nd overall in the 2016 NFL Draft. It's safe to assume Washington won't pick up the fifth-year option on his rookie contract. Paul Richardson (shoulder) looks like the only sure starter among the team's wideout group, though Trey Quinn tentatively is expected to fill Crowder's vacated slot role.

Doctson brought in two of four targets for 33 yards in the Redskins' 24-0 loss to the Eagles on Sunday.
EDGE Analysis
Doctson was dealing with an illness this past week, but he bounced back to co-lead the Redskins in receptions and lead the team in receiving yardage. The 26-year-old did manage to establish new career highs in receptions (44) and receiving yardage (532) in 2018, but he's still largely considered a disappointment after being selected No. 22 overall in 2016. Doctson will be playing on the final year of his rookie contract in 2019, and it remains to be seen if he'll stick around to fulfill it.

Doctson (illness) is active for Sunday's game against the Eagles, Kareem Copeland of The Washington Post reports.
EDGE Analysis
Held out of practice Thursday and Friday due to an illness, Doctson has put the ailment behind him as he prepares for his typical workload in the range of 77 to nearly 100 percent of the offensive snaps. The usage hasn't translated to many significant game lines this season, but he is just four yards shy of setting a new career high.

Doctson (illness) is listed as questionable for Sunday's game against the Eagles.
EDGE Analysis
Doctson still has time to recover before Sunday, but it isn't a great sign that he missed practice both Thursday and Friday (per Kareem Copeland of The Washington Post). With fellow wide receiver Maurice Harris (concussion) already ruled out, Michael Floyd may be looking at a three-down role on the outside.

Coach Jay Gruden said Doctson missed Thursday's practice due to an illness, Kareem Copeland of The Washington Post reports.
EDGE Analysis
Doctson joins two other Redskins wideouts that were listed on Wednesday's injury report: Jamison Crowder (who was limited by a wrist issue) and Maurice Harris (who didn't practice due to a concussion). With the top trio all question marks at the moment, the remaining healthy options at the position in Washington are Michael Floyd, Jehu Chesson and Darvin Kidsey.

Doctson had three catches (six targets) for 30 yards in Saturday's 25-16 loss to Tennessee.
EDGE Analysis
Josh Johnson failed to connect with Doctson on multiple occasions, most notably a bad throw into coverage in the first half that was picked off. It is tough to trust any receivers outside of Jamison Crowder with an inaccurate mobile quarterback under center. Doctson does possess big-play ability, but he is nothing more than a deep-league dart against the Eagles in Week 17.

Doctson (lower back) is active for Saturday's contest against the Titans.
EDGE Analysis
There was some concern Doctson might not be available for Saturday's contest after the receiver stumbled onto the injury report Thursday with what was deemed as lower back spasms. Thankfully for a Redskins' offense missing Jordan Reed (foot/ankle), Vernon Davis (concussion) and Maurice Harris (concussion), Doctson's injury only appeared to be minor, and as a result the third-year receiver will take the field against a Titans' defense allowing the 11th-most fantasy points to the wide receiver position in 2018.
