The Colts are not considering injured reserve as an option for Taylor, who sustained a mild high-ankle sprain during Sunday's 27-24 win over the Steelers in Week 4, Mike Chappell of Fox 59 News Indianapolis reports.
EDGE Analysis
Taylor would have to miss at least four games if he's placed on IR, but it doesn't look like Indianapolis believes the star running back will require that long of a timeframe to complete his recovery. Still, even if Taylor's high-ankle sprain isn't as serious as similar issues he's dealt with in the past, such injuries more often than not result in players having to spend some time on the sideline. Trey Sermon will figure to operate as the Colts' starting running back if Taylor can't suit up on the road against Jacksonville on Sunday, while Tyler Goodson would step into the No. 2 role.

Taylor was diagnosed with a high-ankle sprain after Sunday's 27-24 win over the Steelers, but it's believed to be a mild version of the injury, Ian Rapoport of NFL Network reports.
EDGE Analysis
Taylor will get additional tests Monday to confirm the diagnosis, but the early news on the ankle injury that forced him out of Sunday's win is relatively positive. This high-ankle sprain isn't believed to be as bad as some of the previous ones Taylor has dealt with. Nonetheless, Taylor may miss some game action, and Trey Sermon would be in line to lead Indianapolis' backfield in Week 5 against the Jaguars if Taylor doesn't play.

Taylor was forced out of Sunday's game against the Steelers with an ankle injury, James Boyd of The Athletic reports.
EDGE Analysis
Prior to that, Taylor had carried 21 times for 88 yards and a TD and caught three of his four targets for 20 yards. In Taylor's absence, Trey Sermon and Tyler Goodson are available to handle the Colts' backfield duties.

Taylor carried the ball 23 times for 110 yards and two touchdowns in Sunday's 21-16 win over the Bears. He also caught one of two targets for 25 yards.
EDGE Analysis
The fifth-year running back might have had a third score, but he got a breather after gaining a total of 46 yards on back-to-back plays in the third quarter and watched Trey Sermon finish off the drive with a one-yard TD run. Taylor is the clear focal point of the Colts' offense while Anthony Richardson struggles to move the ball consistently through the air, and that role has resulted in consecutive 100-yard rushing efforts and three touchdowns through three games. Taylor will likely be busy again in a tough Week 4 matchup against the Steelers.

Taylor rushed 12 times for 103 yards and brought in two of four targets for 32 yards in the Colts' 16-10 loss to the Packers on Sunday. He also committed a fumble recovered by Indianapolis.
EDGE Analysis
Taylor looked like himself on his modest amount of opportunities, averaging 8.6 yards per carry with a long run of 29 yards. He also finished with the Colts' second-highest receiving yardage total after being shut out altogether through the air in the Week 1 loss to the Texans. Joel A. Erickson of The Indianapolis Star confirms that the talented running back did not have any injury concerns early in the fourth quarter when he was substituted for Trey Sermon on a key drive, and Taylor's otherwise strong performance was only missing a bit more volume and a touchdown. He'll aim to rectify both matters when he tangles with the Bears defense at home in Week 3.

Taylor carried the ball 16 times for 48 yards and a touchdown in Sunday's 29-27 loss to the Texans.
EDGE Analysis
The fifth-year player was the only Colts running back to get a touch in the game, and while QB Anthony Richardson led the team in rushing yards with 56, Taylor capped his day with a five-yard touchdown run in the third quarter. Taylor could be in line for a much bigger performance in Week 2 against a Packers defense that got gashed for 132 scrimmage yards and three TDs by Saquon Barkley in its opener.

Taylor rushed four times for 15 yards and caught his only target for eight yards in Thursday's 27-14 preseason win over the Bengals.
EDGE Analysis
Taylor started the game but exited a few drives earlier than most of the other starters, allowing Tyler Goodson and Evan Hull to get some first-team reps. None of the other running backs in the organization are likely to do much besides spell Taylor when he needs a breather as long as the workhorse remains healthy. Even with more than two weeks to recover before the Sept. 8 regular-season opener against the Texans, the Colts understandably limited Taylor's workload in the preseason finale, as he's expected to regularly see 20-plus touches after averaging 19.8 combined rushing attempts and receptions per game over his previous four NFL regular seasons.

Taylor and the Colts' starters are on track to play into the second quarter of Thursday's preseason finale against the Bengals, James Boyd of The Athletic reports.
EDGE Analysis
After Taylor gets his anticipated reps Thursday, look for Tyler Goodson, Evan Hull, Zavier Scott and Demetric Felton to have an opportunity to make their cases for depth slotting in an Indy backfield that also includes Trey Sermon, who's been dealing with a hamstring issue. As the coming season approaches, Taylor is healthy and entrenched as his team's clear-cut lead back, a context that should result in a high-volume role in the team's Anthony Richardson-helmed offense.

Coach Shane Steichen said Thursday that Taylor won't suit up for Saturday's preseason game against the Cardinals, Joel A. Erickson of The Indianapolis Star reports.
EDGE Analysis
The same can be said for the rest of the Colts' starters and No. 2 quarterback Joe Flacco. With Taylor in street clothes Saturday, Trey Sermon (hamstring, if available), Tyler Goodson, Evan Hull, Zavier Scott and Demetric Felton will be the candidates to work out of Indianapolis' backfield. As for Taylor, he's coming off back-to-back injury-riddled campaigns in which he averaged 90.4 yards from scrimmage per game and scored 12 total touchdowns in 21 regular-season contests.

Taylor rushed twice for four yards and wasn't targeted in Sunday's 34-30 preseason loss to the Broncos.
EDGE Analysis
Taylor played the first two drives alongside starting quarterback Anthony Richardson, but the Colts understandably didn't give the workhorse running back many touches. While Taylor may continue to sprinkle in some carries throughout the preseason, including Saturday against the Cardinals, the Colts have little reason to put significant tread on his tires during the exhibition slate considering Taylor has handled 925 carries over the past four regular seasons and is in line for another high-volume campaign in 2024.
