The Palm Beach Post reports the Dolphins "prefer to move" Jonathan Martin to left tackle. This jibes with what we have heard for much of the offseason, especially this week after Jake Long bolted for the Rams. Martin started five games on Ryan Tannehill's blind side at the end of last season and gave up far too much pressure. In one instance he was just bulled over by 49ers OLB Aldon Smith for an easy sack. Look for the Dolphins to get serious on free agent RT Eric Winston soon if this report rings true.

GM Jeff Ireland said OT Jonathan Martin's future position on the line remains unsettled. "We're still visiting with a couple of tackles out there," said Ireland. "To say Jonathan is going to definitely play left tackle or right tackle, that's still yet to be determined. I'm comfortable with him playing either position." Martin started the final five games of last season at left tackle. According to Pro Football Focus, he gave up 17 hurries and two sacks in those contests.

A source tells the Palm Beach Post that the Dolphins are "pretty set" on moving Jonathan Martin to left tackle. The Dolphins have blown the majority of their cap space on Day 1 of free agency, so they're almost certainly moving on from free agent Jake Long anyway. This should confirm it. Although Martin struggled mightily after moving to left tackle late in the year, the staff apparently sees enough room for growth. Pass protection could be an issue for the Dolphins in 2013.

Dolphins OT Jonathan Martin's 47 quarterback hurries were the most among offensive tackles in 2012. After moving to left tackle in early December, Martin allowed 17 hurries in just under five games. Jake Long had allowed 10 hurries in just over 11 games. With Long seemingly determined to land a market-setting deal, the Dolphins could have major pass protection issues in 2013.

Dolphins rookie Jonathan Martin has been moved to left tackle in the wake of Jake Long's season-ending triceps injury. Martin showed well while starting the first 12 games at right tackle. Now he'll kick to Ryan Tannehill's blind side while Nate Garner steps in on the right. There's speculation in Miami that Martin's performance over the final four games will help determine if the Dolphins use the franchise tag on Long. Martin gets a brutal first matchup this week as he'll take on Aldon Smith and the 49ers.

Dolphins rookie RT Jonathan Martin has reportedly been "outstanding" so far in training camp. No one ever gave Martin a real challenge at right tackle, and Dolphins reporter Armando Salguero even believes the second-round pick would replace Jake Long if the left tackle were injured. Martin is a good fit for Miami's new zone-running game because he is athletic. He should be a big upgrade on Marc Colombo.

Dolphins second-round pick Jonathan Martin remains a work-in-progress. With Jake Long locked in at left tackle, Martin is making the transition to the right side. Martin has only two weeks of practice with the team due to academic responsibilities, but remains the projected starter. If Martin struggles, Lydon Murtha would get a look.
