Blue is the preferred Miller handcuff, but none of the bunch offers much upside.

Grimes didn't get any touches in Sunday's preseason game against the Cardinals.

Fourth-round rookie Tyler Ervin, also a capable pass-catcher, had two carries for 13 yards and one reception for 20 yards, even getting some snaps with the first-team offense. If Ervin has indeed passed Grimes as the top backup for passing downs, it would appear Grimes is merely competing with Akeem Hunt and Kenny Hilliard for the possibility of one roster spot.

Grimes hauled in his lone target for a nine-yard gain in Saturday's preseason game against the Saints.

Grimes emerged late in the season as head coach Bill O'Brien's preferred top backup, moving ahead of Chris Polk over the final stretch of the season. He finished the season with career highs in carries (56), yards (282) and receptions (26). Grimes became a versatile part of the offense, even operating out of the Wildcat formation several times. He has three seasons in the organization, which may be a factor in whether the Texans keep him around for the 2016 season.

Grimes had a receiving and a rushing touchdown in Houston's 30-6 victory over Jacksonville in Week 17. He rushed four times for 26 yards and caught four of five targets for 28 yards as the Texans clinched the AFC South title with the win.

Though Grimes has been part of a three-back committee for much of the season, the touchdowns were his only scores in the 2015 regular season. His role expanded when Arian Foster suffered a season-ending groin injury, but he never threatened Alfred Blue to become the team's lead back. He'll continue to get some touches when Houston hosts Kansas City in the opening round of the playoffs.

Grimes rushed six times for 25 yards in Sunday's 34-6 win over Tennessee.
