The Washington Redskins exercised their fifth-year option on defensive tackle Jonathan Allen. The option keeps him under contract through the 2021 season. Allen was a first-round pick in 2017 (17th overall) and has been solid in his professional career but has certainly not lived up to his draft position. He's recorded 14 sacks in the past two seasons. He has been good at staying on the field though, playing in 15 games last year and in all 16 the year before.

Allen recorded 10 tackles and a sack over the team's first five games and had been a big reason for the team performing much better on defense in early 2017 than they did a year ago.
