Beason has looked good while rehabbing his foot, and there's a chance he'll be able to suit up for Week 1, the Newark Star-Ledger reports.
The report is speculative, but Beason was apparently working out at full speed and appeared close to being back. When he does return, he'll start at middle linebacker and be a nice source of tackles.

Giants MLB Jon Beason (foot) was seen sprinting on a treadmill off to the side of training camp practice Tuesday.
Beason is just six weeks into his 12-week timetable, but appears to be making substantial progress. He wants to play in preseason games. We doubt the Giants will push him out there for meaningless exhibition snaps, but Beason sounds like he's on track for the regular season opener. He remains on the active/PUP list.

Giants MLB Jon Beason (foot) expects to participate in preseason games.
"I would hope so," Beason said. "Based on how I feel, the way things are going. We want to be smart about it. Obviously I'm going to do what they tell me." Beason is just six weeks into his 12-week timetable, but believes his ability to heal is "a little super human." He opened training camp on active/PUP and is currently limited to running on an underwater treadmill. Beason remains questionable to be ready for Week 1.

Giants placed MLB Jon Beason (foot) on the active/PUP list.
The question is if Beason will remain there through the start of the regular season, costing him the Giants' first six games. At best, Beason is considered highly questionable for Week 1.

Giants MLB Jon Beason does not need surgery to repair a ligament tear and small fracture to the sesamoid bone in his right foot.
Beason visited Dr. Robert Anderson in Charlotte over the weekend, and it's been determined that rest and rehab should do the trick. Beason's original 12-week recovery timetable doesn't change. His foot will be immobilized in a cast for three weeks then a walking boot for anther three weeks as the first part of his rehab. Beason still hopes to be ready for Week 1. Jameel McClain was working with the first-team defense as minicamp commenced on Tuesday.

The extent of Giants MLB Jon Beason's injury is a torn ligament and fractured sesamoid bone in his right foot.
The NY Daily News believes Beason could miss "Opening Day, and maybe more," after receiving a 12-week recovery timetable. A team source said the Giants expect Beason to "need surgery and at least three months to recover." In an ideal world, Beason would resume practicing just before Week 1, although that's optimistic. The Giants will look at Mark Herzlich, Jameel McClain, and rookie Devon Kennard as short-term replacements. As the injury occurred before training camp, Beason will be eligible for the PUP list. It's a blow to the Giants' defense, albeit not nearly as severe as the Cowboys' loss of Sean Lee (ACL), or Falcons ILB Sean Weatherspoon's Achilles' tear.

NFL Network's Kimberly Jones reports Giants MLB Jon Beason suffered a "sesamoid fracture" in his right foot and will be sidelined 12 weeks.
Beason is traveling to North Carolina to visit Dr. Robert Anderson, a noted foot specialist, and will undergo surgery. The three-month timetable puts Beason right up against the clock for Week 1. It's relatively good news, all things considered. Beason shouldn't miss much, if any, regular season action, and he already knows the defense. Beason inked a new three-year, $16.8 million deal in March. Rookie Devon Kennard will handle first-team reps in Beason's absence.

Giants re-signed MLB Jon Beason.
The Giants' 2013 in-season trade for Beason from Carolina was largely laughed at, but proved a smooth move by oft-savvy GM Jerry Reese. Beason stabilized the Giants' defense as an every-down Mike 'backer, finishing the season with 104 tackles and an interception across 11 starts. Beason remains a plus run defender at age 29, but struggles versus the pass. Still, this was a quality move by Reese to retain Beason, keeping him away from aggressive Denver.
