Gresham (hamstring) is active for Sunday's game against the Saints, Kent Somers of the Arizona Republic reports.
EDGE Analysis
In an offense featuring two-tight end sets, the Cardinals were in desperate need of Gresham or Troy Niklas (hamstring) pulling on a jersey in Week 1 to complement starter Darren Fells. Any snaps Gresham logs Sunday will be his first with the team, which doesn't inspire as much confidence as a full training camp and preseason would have provided.

Gresham (hamstring) is listed as questionable for Sunday's game against the Saints, Darren Urban of the Cardinals' official site reports.
EDGE Analysis
According to Urban, Niklas and fellow tight end Jermaine Gresham (hamstring) are both expected to be game-time decision. Regardless, neither figures to have a big role in the passing game, with Darren Fells listed atop the depth chart at tight end.

Gresham (hamstring) was limited in Thursday's practice, Darren Urban of the Cardinals' official site reports.
EDGE Analysis
Gresham's activity level remains unchanged, as does that of fellow tight end Troy Niklas (hamstring). Arizona's TE corps experienced some upheaval Wednesday, with Joseph Fauria swapping in for Ifeanyi Momah (torn meniscus). No matter, Darren Fells is the top tight-end option for Carson Palmer, despite the quarterback's previous relationship with Gresham.

Gresham (hamstring) practiced on a limited basis Wednesday, Darren Urban of the Cardinals' official site reports.
EDGE Analysis
Gresham was donning full pads in the open portion of practice, but his reps were ultimately limited due to a hamstring issue, which he picked up last week. With no preseason snaps on his ledger, he's behind the eight ball in terms of viability among the Cardinals' tight ends. If current levels of health hold, he'll enter Sunday's game against the Saints behind Darren Fells.

Gresham (hamstring) is expected to return to practice this week, the Cardinals' official site reports.
EDGE Analysis
Gresham was eased into training camp due to his recovery from March back surgery, but a hamstring injury suffered in late August didn't afford him a preseason appearance. With the expectation that he'll practice in the near future, he could show enough to achieve active status in Week 1 against the Saints. No matter, Darren Fells has emerged as the Cardinals' clear-cut No. 1 tight end, meaning Gresham may not make an immediate impact in his new locale.

Gresham (hamstring) will not play in Thursday's preseason game against Denver.
EDGE Analysis
Gresham has dealt with hamstring and back issues for most of the preseason, but it's the hamstring that appears to be the culprit this time around. The lack of reps with the new offense may mean a longer adjustment period come the start of the regular season.

Arizona Cardinals tight end Jermaine Gresham participated in team drills Tuesday for the first time this training camp after recovering from a neck injury, according to the team's official website. Gresham still hasn't been cleared to practice fully after undergoing surgery to repair a herniated disk, but he is expected to increase his activity level as camp moves on and should be ready for the start of the regular season.

Gresham (back) visited the Saints on Wednesday, ESPN.com reports. "I think there's a fit for us if it works out," head coach Sean Payton said Thursday.
In the 2014 season finale, Gresham suffered a herniated disc in his back, which forced inactive status in the wild-card loss to the Colts and ultimately required surgery in March. The 2010 first-round pick missed only six regular season contests in five years with the Bengals, though, so his resilience is well-documented to this point in his career. If the Saints deem Gresham a fit for their offense, the two-time Pro Bowler (2011 and 2012) would compete with the likes of Benjamin Watson and Josh Hill for reps at tight end. However, an assessment of Gresham's health will likely determine his NFL future.

Gresham (back) may undergo back surgery Thursday, but he would still likely be ready for training camp, NFL.com's Ian Rapoport reports.
Gresham will meet with a doctor Wednesday, at which point the decision on surgery will presumably be made. The timing is unfortunate for the veteran tight end, and this explains why he's yet to find a home in free agency. A former first-round pick, Gresham is arguably the biggest unsigned name still available at his position, but he doesn't offer great receiving skills, and now faces questions about his availability for training camp. He may end up settling for a one-year deal.

The Raiders are thought to be targeting Gresham in free agency, ESPN.com reports.
While the Raiders won't be in on either WR Randall Cobb or DT Ndamukong Suh, Gresham -- who caught 62 passes for 460 yards with five TDs for the Bengals last season -- would represent a nice boost to Oakland's TE corps, after a 2014 season in which the unit was hampered by injuries.
