We are now into week two and there are some surprises. Just look at those Detroit Lions for the good. Look at Kansas City Chiefs for the bad. And I guess it could be the Indianapolis Colts for the ugly. Will these teams continue to trend that way and end up in that order? I don't think so, but it works its way through and by Turkey day every team is for the most part where you thought they would be. The mind has the ability to do that to you. Just trying to organize the chaos leads to misdirection and re-invention of the recent past. Speaking of recent past, I get to write my first Sunday win. Sunday Win Sometimes the outcome comes early. And this week my opponent who just happens to be my great friend and college roommate Rob Schare has no one going on Monday. But the Sunday game runs long into the night so you have to wake up and test the waters. I was down by 36 points heading into the Sunday night game. And on the backs of Mr. Michael Vick and Jeremy Maclin who combined for 66 fantasy points, I got by with a victory. The Detroit Lions defense that I picked up on a lark went for 26 points. Things are looking sideways because Vick left the game with a concussion and Steven Jackson is out along with Dez Bryant. But the rest contributed and a 2-0 record is better than 1-1 or 0-2. The NFL is filled with 2-0 franchises that are starting to shake themselves out. 2-0 Who Is a Contenda? Who Is a Pretenda Teams start out 2-0 and miss the playoffs. Teams start out 0-2 and make the playoffs. It is just how that oblong cowhide covered spheroid bounces on those odd fall days. Ever since Miami went perfect in 1972 and the playoffs to win it all, football fans wonder if it will happen again. This year, there are 7 teams that are 2-0. Last year there were 8 at this time. In the AFC, the New York Jets and New England Patriots appear to be contendas. The Buffalo Bills appear to be a pretenda. In the NFC, the Green Bay Packers appear to be a contenda. The Washington Redskins appear to be a pretenda. Last year I labeled the Green Bay Packers a contenda and they went all the way! So sometimes the trend is your friend. Do not count your chickens until Turkey time folks so this debate will go on ice until that week. It is just so amazing how anyone can think they know anything about the landscape of professional football yet until a proper trend is established.
