THE STORY: It is customary this time of year to highlight the various scenarios for teams to get into the playoffs. Neither the Philadelphia Eagles nor the Miami Dolphins have to worry very much about that at this point. But while the Eagles, who came into the season with Super Bowl aspirations, consistently look as though they are uninterested in playing out the string, the Miami Dolphins - who had much more modest expectations, are playing as hard as any team in the league. Philadelphia will get a boost this week with the expected return of quarterback Michael Vick and wide receiver Jeremy Maclin, each of whom has missed the last three games. The Dolphins, once thought to be on the path to a winless season, have won four of their last five and have come within a field goal in their last three losses.

Week 13 Fantasy Football Start ‘Ems brunoboys.net Thu 12/1/11 7:30 AM

Week 13 is the final week of the regular season in most fantasy football leagues, so making the right lineup decisions are all the more critical in this pivotal week. Injuries to Adrian Peterson, Darren McFadden and Michael Vick have come at an inopportune time for fantasy owners who spent a high draft pick on them, while injuries to other startable players like Ahmad Bradshaw, Miles Austin and Jeremy Maclin have also hampered owners who had been relying on them.

Preview: Eagles at Seahawks brunoboys.net Tue 11/29/11 4:45 PM

THE STORY: Some dream, eh? The self-labeled "Dream Team" - otherwise known as the Philadelphia Eagles - will travel to the Pacific Northwest to continue their nightmare of a season on Thursday against the Seattle Seahawks at CenturyLink Field. Despite widely different expectations after last season's playoff appearances, both clubs enter Thursday's prime-time contest with identical - and disappointing - 4-7 marks. After dropping three of its last four games, Philadelphia's rail-thin postseason hopes rest on running the table and receiving a riverboat gambler's share of luck in the process. To add injury to insult, QB Michael Vick (ribs) and WR Jeremy Maclin (shoulder, hamstring) are likely to miss their respective third straight games on Thursday. For its part, Seattle saw its modest two-game winning streak come to an end with a 23-17 home loss to the Washington Redskins.

Hear Ye! Hear Ye! Hear Ye! To one and all I wish a Happy Thanksgiving. We are the first nation to celebrate and give thanks for all that we have. So let us give thanks for what we have and look forward to a brighter and prosperous holiday season. Dare I say that sometimes you win because of the other team. So let us see the week that was. When The Other Team Finally Steps In It I have Michael Vick. I have Jeremy Maclin. Last week I sat Larry Fitzgerald, which led to a loss. I have to find a quarterback. What am I to do? Sometimes it does not matter because of the other team. Just look at the week that Ryan Fitzpatrick, Greg Jennings, Jermichael Finley and Mike Tolbert had. If I were to tell you that those four dudes went for 21 points you would think that I am crazy. Heck. My replacement quarterback John Skelton went for -2 points. How can that happen? Well it did, and yet I still eked out a win. This leaves me with a 6-4-1 record with three weeks to go. I will have to run the table if I want to win the division. It is officially go time and I have to go and find another quarterback I guess. Is Everyone In Your League Around .500? In my league there are two teams four games or more below .500. In my league there are two teams four games or more above .500. The other eight teams are within a few games of .500. I may mention this yearly but I am constantly amazed how difficult it is to be undefeated or way above .500. We have one such team this year in my league. Something drives each team to be at or around .500. I guess that is the same reason why San Francisco and Detroit are surprisingly doing well and Indianapolis is just not there this year. Past trends do not a future certainty make in this NFL environment. My diary entry as usual goes into giving thanks. Dear Diary Thanksgiving is about managing demons small and large. Each demon possesses all of us and we are none the wiser. There is the demon that gets into arguments with that crazy uncle. There is that side of us finding new ways to annoy that distant aunt. All of these demons come alive in the presence of other family members. How strange is that? But it would not be a Thanksgiving without the other members of your family. So enjoy the turkey. So enjoy the stuffing. Enjoy the mashed potatoes and the green bean casserole. But it goes without saying that you should enjoy the company of everyone in your family. As time slips through our grasp, reflections of the future get cloudier and ...

Hello, how was your weekend? Before you waste your breath, I could actually care less.  I was just looking for a way to bitch to you about mine.  You see, it turns out that having Jeremy Maclin, Julio Jones, Willis McGahee, and the Ravens D on a majority of my lineups was in fact, not [...]

As we prepare for the final week of byes, the waiver wire pickings are becoming slim. In most leagues, owners have already gobbled up the best fantasy options. But there are still a few gems to be had. Here is a look at five players who will be top waiver wire targets heading into Week 11 and my thoughts on whether or not you should pursue them. Lance Ball, RB, Denver -- I'm going to state the obvious here: The Denver Broncos will to run the football. What makes me say that? Well, Ball entered the game in the second quarter against Kansas City after Willis McGahee and Knowshon Moreno left with injuries and finished with 30 carries for 96 yards. That's a pretty good workload for two-and-a-half quarters. The thing about the Broncos is they're not going to be able to do to most NFL team what they did to the Kansas City Chiefs, which is only throw the ball nine times. Denver plays the New York Jets on Thursday and there's no way that college offense is going to work consistently against Rex Ryan's defense. Ball has some value because the guys ahead of him are banged up but nobody really knows who'll get carries. However, Tim Tebow is still going to be the main running back on that team, especially near the goal line, so Ball's upside is limited. The Final Call: I wouldn't go crazy trying to get Ball. He's still the third-string running back, and to be honest he looked like a third-stringer on Sunday. Kendall Hunter, RB, San Francisco -- Frank Gore injured his knee on Sunday and Hunter responded by scoring a touchdown, although with the way Gore has been playing it's doubtful anyone had him in their lineup. Hunter has shown flashes this year while filling in for Gore, but his fantasy value is tied directly to Gore's health. Gore has already said he expects to play this week, and if that's the case Hunter will be reduced to his usual backup role. One thing to keep in mind is that Gore has carried the ball a lot this year and he's far from the most durable player in the NFL. Gore is now dealing with a sore knee and ankle, so it's not out of the realm of possibility that Hunter sees more playing time in the near future. Keep an eye on Gore's status, but as of right now it looks like he's a go Sunday against Arizona, meaning Hunter won't be an option. The Final Call: If Hunter is on your waiver wire he's worth adding in deeper leagues but he'll only be a fantasy option if Gore's injuries cause him to miss time. Steve Smith, WR, Philadelphia -- Smith saw ...
