Cardinals placed TE Jeff King on injured reserve with a knee injury, ending his season. King, 30, underwent knee surgery Friday after he was experiencing some swelling. He was only expected to miss a month, but he isn't worth a roster spot.

Cardinals TE Jeff King will undergo knee surgery Friday. King, 30, has been experiencing some swelling in his knee of late. He underwent a scope on the knee in the offseason, but he likely needs another clean-out procedure. The blocking tight end will be sidelined for about a month.

Cardinals TE Jeff King is recovering from knee surgery, but could be ready to resume practicing by early June. The blocking tight end is sitting out OTAs, but sounds like he'll be ready for training camp. He's likely recovering from a scope. A seven-year veteran, King graded out as the third-worst tight end in the league in Pro Football Focus' ratings last season.

Cardinals TE Jeff King (quadriceps surgery) is expected to be ready "at some point" during training camp. TEs coach Freddie Kitchens suggested the Cardinals will utilize more two-tight end sets this season. King will be the blocking specialist used in tandem with Todd Heap and breakout candidate Rob Housler, who "needs to play," according to Kitchens.

Updating a previous item, Cardinals TE Jeff King's right leg injury is a partially torn quadriceps tendon suffered in offseason workouts. The injury did require surgery, though coach Ken Whisenhunt expects King to be ready for training camp. Whether or not he's back to 100 percent by August remains to be seen.

Cardinals TE Jeff King was spotted in crutches and with a brace on his right leg Tuesday. No other details are known, but it would appear King is dealing with a fairly significant injury. King saw heavy snaps while Todd Heap battled a hamstring injury last season, notching 27 catches for 271 yards. King will compete with 2011 third-rounder Rob Housler to be Heap's backup if healthy.

Arizona TE Jeff King is expected to be inserted into the Cardinals starting lineup. King is one of three possible tight ends who could see playing time if Todd Heap is unable to dress, including Rob Housler and Jim Dray, but none are recommended fantasy options. The Steelers are allowing an average of seven points per game to opposing tight ends.

Jeff King caught five passes for 35 yards in Sunday's loss to the Vikings. With Todd Heap out and the Cardinals trailing by three-plus scores for virtually the entire game, King got involved. Normally, he'll just be a blocker.

Cardinals agreed to terms with TE Jeff King, formerly of the Panthers. King won't have fantasy value, as he's expected to fill the blocking role alongside rookie "Joker" tight end Rob Housler. The Arizona Republic conceded that the Cardinals could have interest in Todd Heap, but he's not expected to be a priority. We doubt Arizona would have added King if Heap was also on their radar.

Pro Football Weekly has spoken with a Panthers team source that says keeping free agent TE Jeff King will not be a priority. Hardly a surprise, as even though King has proven to be a solid blocker during his five seasons in Carolina, he has provided very little in the passing game since catching 46 balls in 2007. Brittle and aging Jeremy Shockey will be the Panthers' starting Week 1 tight end.
