Heath is questionable to return to Sunday's game with a possible concussion, Jon Machota of The Dallas Morning News reports.
EDGE Analysis
Heath will have to go through the league's concussion protocol before he can return to the field. Depending on the severity of the diagnosis, Heath could be subject to further evaluation. Kavor Frazier is the likely candidate to take over Heath's safety spot for the time being.

Heath is expected to compete in camp this year for the starting strong safety spot, Drew Davison of the Star-Telegram reports. "Every time we've given him a chance to play on defense, he does something really good for our football team," Cowboys head coach Jason Garrett said Monday. "Makes tackles. Makes interceptions. He's just demonstrated that he's worthy to be in this conversation about competing for that starting safety spot."
EDGE Analysis
The Cowboys have a lot of snaps to replace in their secondary after losing four defensive backs in free agency, including safeties Barry Church and J.J. Wilcox, and all signs point to Heath taking on a much larger role in his fifth NFL season. Whether he's a Week 1 starter next to Byron Jones could depend on whether the team uses an early pick this weekend on a safety, but at the moment his only real competition on the roster comes from second-year player Kavon Frazier and former Viking Robert Blanton.

Heath could be in line for a bigger role on the Cowboys' defense in 2017 after the departure of Barry Church.
EDGE Analysis
J.J. Wilcox is also a free agent and may not return either, which could leave Heath competing with second-year player Kavon Frazier for a starting safety spot in camp if Dallas doesn't bring in any outside help at the position. Heath has made his mark on special teams over the last few seasons but saw more action on defense in the second half of 2016, although his IDP impact was minimal (15 tackles and an INT in his final eight games).

Heath went 3-for-6 on field goal attempts using the skinnier practice uprights during Wednesday's practice, and could be used as the Cowboys' backup kicker if Dan Bailey's back becomes a more serious issue, The Ft. Worth Star-Telegram reports.
EDGE Analysis
He had college soccer scholarship offers coming out of high school, so booting the ball isn't new for Heath. The backup safety has only seen one snap on defense this year, spending most of his time on the special teams coverage units, but if he is pressed into action as Dallas' kicker he could suddenly become a very sneaky IDP play.

Heath (knee) is set to play Sunday against the 49ers, David Helman of the Cowboys' official site reports.
EDGE Analysis
Heath's full participation during Friday's practice foreshadowed his availability for Sunday's contest. He'll provide depth at free safety behind Byron Jones.

Heath (concussion) was able to play in Thursday's preseason finale against the Texans, recording a tackle and recovering a fumble.
EDGE Analysis
He should be fine for Week 1 and Heath will serve a depth role for the Cowboys as a backup safety and special teams player.

Heath was diagnosed with a concussion and will miss Saturday's preseason opener against the Rams, Brandon George of The Dallas Morning News reports.
EDGE Analysis
Heath was originally being evaluated for a shoulder injury, but it turned out to actually be a concussion. The fourth-year player out of Saginaw Valley is currently listed as the second-string free safety on the Cowboy's roster, but with him out Saturday, expect Isaiah Frey to see more playing time.

The Cowboys have signed Heath to a four-year deal, the Dallas Morning News reports.
EDGE Analysis
In his role as reserve safety for the Cowboys in 2015, Heath managed to record two interceptions to go along with 25 tackles and a forced fumble. While he's generally off the IDP radar, Heath -- who turns 25 next month -- has carved out added value to the Cowboys with his strong special teams play.

Heath will not receive a fine from the league following his hit last week on Ricardo Lockette, ESPN Dallas reports.
EDGE Analysis
He was flagged after a collision with Lockette on a punt return that sent the Seahawk to the hospital for eventual neck surgery, but the NFL reviewed the play and decided no further discipline on Heath was necessary.
