Matthews is considered questionable for Sunday's game versus the Cowboys, Vaughn McClure of ESPN.com reports.
EDGE Analysis
Matthews was limited for the last two practices of the week, which is a good sign for his availability Sunday. Matt Gono is ready to start at left tackle if Matthews can't go.

Matthews (knee) was upgraded to limited practice participation Thursday after sitting out Wednesday's session, Jason Butt of The Atlanta Journal-Constitution reports.
EDGE Analysis
The 2018 Pro Bowler sustained a knee injury during Sunday's loss to Seattle, but he was able to return to game action and finish out the contest. By making a practice appearance Thursday, Matthews is trending towards his 95th consecutive start, as the Falcons travel to take on the Cowboys.

Matthews (knee) did not participate during Wednesday's practice session, William McFadden of the Falcons' official site reports.
EDGE Analysis
The 28-year-old offensive tackle sustained the injury during Sunday's 38-25 loss to Seattle, but he was able to tough his way through the issue and play to the final whistle. Matthews is certainly a key fixture to Atlanta's offensive line as the blind-side protector to Matt Ryan, and one of two players among the unit who has ever played in a Pro Bowl. If there is a route for him to feasibly make his way back into the lineup, Atlanta will almost definitely roll him out for a crucial matchup against another 0-1 team in the Cowboys.

Head coach Dan Quinn marveled at Matthews' approach to the game during a media session this week, Jason Butt of The Atlanta Journal-Constitution reports. "I would say the consistency of him has just been remarkable," Quinn explained. "He's really detailed in his approach."
EDGE Analysis
Matthews enters his seventh NFL campaign having displayed supreme durability to this point in his career, starting 95 of a possible 96 games since entering the league as the No. 6 overall draft choice in 2014. The 28-year-old left tackle is one of four sure starters along the Falcons' offensive line -- joining Alex Mack, Chris Lindstrom and Kaleb McGary -- but left guard remains a question mark for Week 1. One year removed from the first Pro Bowl nod of his career, Matthews is playing at a high level as the protector of Matt Ryan's blind side.

Matthews has replaced Washington's Trent Williams as a tackle on the NFC Pro Bowl roster, D. Orlando Ledbetter of The Atlanta Journal-Constitution reports.
EDGE Analysis
A trusty protector of Matt Ryan's blind side, Matthews was a bright spot for an Atlanta offensive line that largely underperformed during 2018. The Falcons tied for fourth-worst in QB hits allowed (109) while also finishing bottom 10 in run blocking power success, per Football Outsiders. Matthews has delivered since being picked sixth overall in the 2014 Draft, cashing in with a five-year, $75 million contract in July after three impressive pro campaigns, and this season committing a career-low three penalties while earning his first Pro Bowl selection.

Matthews agreed to terms on a five-year, $75 million deal with Atlanta on Friday, Ian Rapoport of NFL Network reports.
EDGE Analysis
Shortly after Matt Ryan signed his record-breaking contract in May, general manager Thomas Dimitroff identified Matthews as one of the Falcons' foremost priorities in terms of finalizing a multi-year extension. Evidently, the 26-year-old tackle is part of Atlanta's long-term plan, as Matthews now becomes the NFL's third highest-paid offensive lineman behind only Taylor Lewan and Nate Solder. Since entering the league as the sixth-overall pick in the 2014 draft, Matthews has missed just one game in four seasons, and he was the cornerstone of an offensive line that tied for the third-fewest sacks allowed last year.

Matthews had his fifth-year option exercised by the Falcons on Tuesday, Vaughn McClure of ESPN reports.
EDGE Analysis
Matthews was a first-round pick in 2014, and the picked-up option will keep him in Atlanta through the 2018 season. The tackle was an intricate part of a Falcons offense that averaged 415.8 total yards per game in 2016, good for second best in the NFL. However, Atlanta did surrender 2.4 quarterback sacks per game last season, which ranks bottom-ten in the NFL, so Matthews and the rest of the offensive line will look to sure up their pass protection this coming season.

Matthews (knee) is questionable for Sunday's matchup with Los Angeles.
EDGE Analysis
Matthews was held out of practice on Wednesday and Thursday after spraining his knee in Week 13 but he was able to practice in a limited fashion on Friday. If he's held out on Sunday look for Tom Compton to see a spot start.

Although Matthews sprained his left knee during Sunday's game against the Chiefs, head coach Dan Quinn relayed he's hopeful the lineman will return to practice Thursday, D. Orlando Ledbetter of the Atlanta Journal-Constitution reports.
EDGE Analysis
Even if he is able to practice this week, Matthews isn't a lock to play Sunday against the Rams.
