Waiver Wire Wonders - Week 1 fantasysharks.com Tue 9/2/14 9:06 AM

Welcome one and all! Now that most drafts are over, it is never too early to look at the Waiver Wire Wonders! Many leagues have open free agency before the first regular season game, check your league rules to see if you can jump on in and rectify those draft day mistakes. Though this column usually lists pickup potentials in order of relevance, we will start off this season by grouping the players by position. We will list a trio at each of the offensive positions, offering hope to those owners that drafted a player that did not make a final NFL roster, or injured themselves and will be out for the season (see also: Bradford, Sam). As always, thanks for reading, on to this week's wonders! Quarterback Shaun Hill, St. Louis With Sam Bradford out for the season, the Rams will turn to veteran Shaun Hill as the starter. As the backup to Matthew Stafford in Detroit, Hill did not see much action the last couple of years, only seeing action in four games over the last three seasons combined. The year prior to that is when Hill made his mark, as he passed for over 2,600 yards over the course of eleven games. Three times that season he threw for over 300 yards, and he totalled 16 touchdown passes. So he is a capable NFL quarterback, and he has been given the opportunity this season to be the starter from the first game. The Rams will want to run the ball, but in order to win it will have to be through the air as Hill looks to wideouts Kenny Britt, Brian Quick, and Tavon Austin. Not exactly a muderer's row of talent, they are a capable bunch where Hill has the potential to toss for 250 yards per game. In a season where so many quarterback battles are going to be up in the air, getting a quality player that is guaranteed playing time is something worth considering as a fantasy backup. Jake Locker, Tennessee There is nothing outstanding about Jake Locker, and he is going undrafted in many leagues. As is the case with Shaun Hill, Locker is the unquestioned starter on his team so he is guaranteed playing time. The Titans offense is in a bit of a transition, having said goodbye to longtime mainstay Chris Johnson. Shonn Greene and Dexter McCluster will be in the backfield, with Kendall Wright, Nate Washington, and Justin Hunter catching the ball. As a backup fantasy quarterback, Locker is worth a look as a guaranteed starter. Blake Bortles, Jacksonville Of all the rookie quarterbacks, Bortles has the best potential to register a blip on the ...
