QB ATL (5)

The Falcons have decided to keep Cousins on their roster ahead of Saturday's 4 pm ET deadline for his $10 million guarantee to kick in, Adam Schefter of ESPN reports.
EDGE Analysis
Cousins lost his starting job to Michael Penix late last season and has been the subject of trade speculation in recent months. However, the Falcons appear determined to keep him around as a backup and mentor to Penix for at least one more season. It's still possible that a trade partner will emerge to persuade Atlanta to part ways with the veteran quarterback, but Cousins has a no-trade clause in his contract and may waive it only if put in the position to be a starter elsewhere.

the falcons r determined to keep him on the roster because of all that guaranteed money and the cap hit... by keeping him for 1 more year as a backup, they can soften the blow... he is not a mentor to pennix... give me a break.... my advice to cousins is 2 just enjoy the game, because after this year u will no longer b part of the NFL... nobody wants aaron rogers, russel wilson or kirt cousins.... the baggage is not worth whats left of the talent, especially for the price....

agreed, I like Kirk though. he is good people and was a solid pocket passer in his prime. I wish him the best.

if i remember right, he was drafted by washington in the 2nd rnd... he was not good people and thats y he got shipped off to the vikings... s. diggs then took exception to him... so did theilan.. im sure so did dalvin cook and irv smith... y in the hell did the falcons draft pennix at #8 overall? maybe because they realized what a hugh mistake they just made.... i do wish him a hapoy retirement... go have fun with all that free money....

you remember wrong.

he was a 4th round pick made the same year they picked up RGIII for insurance and the redskins jerked him around while expecting a home town discount. He never got into any trouble, has always been well spoken. he has always been very active in the local community and was a stud dropping dimes for the Vikings. He earned everything he has.

Diggs was his own worst enemy and still is,. He wanted too much money, caused distractions and Jefferson was better and the Vikes knew it. Kirk had nothing to do with him being shipped off to Buff. Theilan left because the Vikes saw a drop in production and was able to draft an upgrade.

Falcons grabbed Penix for two reasons, best player on the board and insurance in case Kirk struggled with his recovery. You just sound bitter because he was able to secure great contracts during his career.

i do remember diggs dsihing on cousins publicly, and 2 a much lesser extent, so did thelilan... now part of that was a WR saying, give me the damn ball.... part of it was criticism of cousins ability... there was never any personal yer momma jokes... still it was quite obvious the locker room wasnt in sync... cousins did become a much better QB, but i think the rift never closed.... just speculation on my part, but ive been around and i have a good memory,,,, yup it was 4rth rnd.... and i also remember when he got traded, washington fans were upset....

He never got traded. The Skins tagged him twice, then became a free agent. Skins fans to this day are still upset at Dan Snyder for treating the kid like trash and letting him walk. He was a huge fan favorite in DC. It only took 6 years to find another QB.

i didnt say he got traded... i said he got shipped of to the vikes.... washington does seem to have QB problems... ever since billy kilmer retired... 3great QBs have limped out of washington... tniesman, RGB 3, and alex smith.... please gert some offensive linemen at some point.... ya know.. hogs 2.0....

heh- until 2023 i dont think the bears have ever drafted an O-Lineman in the 1rst rnd... im probably wrong on that....

What a laughing stock

Now what i meant about ^this comment was about him being the highest paid backup in history why don't they get ACTUAL value for the youngster and trade Kirk to a QB needy team and get some picks for crying out loud
