Through the first half of the season, Jones has failed to breathe any life into the Chargers return game, which is historically bad at this stage, the San Diego Union-Tribune reports.
EDGE Analysis
Jones returned one punt on Sunday at Baltimore, and he collided with a teammate for a 2-yard loss. The Chargers unbelievably have just one punt-return yard this season through eight games. That trails only the 1972 Patriots for the worst in NFL history after half of a season. In fairness to Jones, he has dealt with an ankle injury for better part of this season, but he was brought in on a two-year $5.5 million contract specifically to address San Diego's woeful return game, and he has quite obviously not done the job. With eight games to go, and the Chargers season pretty much over at 2-6, it seems unlikely that Jones will make it to the second year of that deal.
