The NFL has denied Gordon's request for reinstatement from his one-year suspension for repeated violations of the league's Policy and Program for Substances of Abuse, Mary Kay Cabot of the Cleveland Plain Dealer reports. Gordon's next opportunity to apply for reinstatement will arrive on Aug. 1, according Ian Rapoport of NFL Network.
EDGE Analysis
On Monday, it was widely reported that Gordon had failed a drug test in March. Both the A and B samples were revealed to have "traces of marijuana and dilute," and despite the former falling short of the threshold required for a positive test, his presence in Stage 3 of the drug program sealed his fate. Once Aug. 1 rolls around, Gordon will have the chance to reapply, though commissioner Roger Goodell is notorious for taking longer than the 60-day mandate for a response recommended under the current CBA. As a result, Gordon is in danger of missing his second season in a row.
