It's Week 16. Crunch time. Remember what got your fantasy team to this point. Don't over-think your decisions. If you have Jordy Nelson, play him. Do not worry about Green Bay resting players this week. The NFC East will be plentiful with passing yards while the Denver Broncos, Baltimore Ravens, Houston Texans and Pittsburgh Steelers will lead the way on the ground. Good luck this week and Happy Holidays!
I utilize statistical analysis combined with more than 15 years of fantasy football experience to give you an inside look of how players will perform on a week-to-week basis. The Studs list will be updated on a regular basis as players emerge and injuries occur, but be patient with those players listed early in the season. They were ranked and selected high in your draft for a reason.
When using this list, try and remember a couple basic rules:
1) Studs -- Always play your studs. Each position will include a list of players that are considered studs and should not be benched. If you have the luxury of needing to decide between studs, check out the matchups or feel free to let the shark tank assist you in your decisions.
2) Depth -- Every fantasy team is different and some have more depth than others. Only follow the recommended moves if your team depth allows you to make such a move.
Quarterbacks
Studs
Aaron Rodgers, Green Bay vs. Chicago
Drew Brees, New Orleans vs. Atlanta
Tom Brady, New England vs. Miami
Cam Newton, Carolina vs. Tampa Bay
Matthew Stafford, Detroit vs. San Diego
Eli Manning, N.Y. Giants at N.Y. Jets
Tony Romo, Dallas vs. Philadelphia
Matt Ryan, Atlanta at New Orleans
Philip Rivers, San Diego at Detroit
Ben Roethlisberger, Pittsburgh vs. St. Louis *Questionable: Ankle*
Start
Michael Vick, Philadelphia at Dallas: Vick had a very solid game against the New York Jets last, week throwing for 274 yards with a touchdown and an interception while rushing for 32 yards and a touchdown. Look for his passing numbers to increase this week as Vick attempts to match his Week 8 performance against the Cowboys when he threw for 279 yards, two touchdowns, no interceptions and 50 yards rushing. This Eagles team suddenly has a new life and they are the scariest team in the NFC East by far. You'll see more reasons why this week.
Rex Grossman, Washington vs. Minnesota: Grossman had his worst game in over a month last week, throwing for just 185 yards with one touchdown and two interceptions against the New York Giants. He gets a much more favorable matchup this week against a Vikings defense that has been lit up to the tune of 260.4 yards passing per game this season (30th in the NFL). Look for Grossman to make up for last week's performance with solid stats as he takes advantage of a soft Vikings pass defense.
Bench
Joe Flacco, Baltimore vs. Cleveland: Flacco had one of his worst games of the season the last time he faced the Browns (Week 13), throwing for 158 yards with no touchdowns or interceptions. Coming off a very disappointing showing on Sunday night, you can bet the Ravens will be very run-centric against a Browns team that has struggled mightily at stopping the run all season. I'll be shocked if Flacco even attempts 25 passes this week which should tell you all you need to know about his projected output.
Matt Hasselbeck, Tennessee vs. Jacksonville: Talk about falling down from a hot start, Hasselbeck has gone from a fantasy darling to a curse word in five quick weeks. Since Week 10, Hasselback has thrown for more than 200 yards once (223 last week vs. Indianapolis), and that was in a losing effort where he threw two interceptions and no touchdowns. Don't look for a quick turn back to the glory days of the first half of the season this week as the Titans will continue to struggle in the passing game, but Chris Johnson will do just fine.
Running Backs
Studs
LeSean McCoy, Philadelphia at Dallas
Ray Rice, Baltimore vs. Cleveland
Arian Foster, Houston at Indianapolis
Maurice Jones-Drew, Jacksonville at Tennessee
Darren Sproles, New Orleans vs. Atlanta
Ryan Mathews, San Diego at Detroit
Marshawn Lynch, Seattle vs. San Francisco
Chris Johnson, Tennessee vs. Jacksonville
Steven Jackson, St. Louis at Pittsburgh
Michael Turner, Atlanta at New Orleans
Adrian Peterson, Minnesota at Washington
Frank Gore, San Francisco at Seattle
Start
Reggie Bush, Miami at New England: Thanks to a 203-yard rushing game last week, Bush has entered the Top 10 in points per reception point leagues. So much for the notion that he can't be a No. 1 back and Daniel Thomas is the guy to own in Miami. Bush rushed for only 38 yards the last time he faced New England in the season opener, but he caught nine passes for 56 yards and a score during that game as well. As hot as Bush is these days, you can't afford to take him out of your lineup.
Willis McGahee, Denver at Buffalo: If McGahee is good to go this week after injuring his hamstring against New England last week, get him in your lineup quick. The Bills are ranked 29th in the league in rushing yards allowed, and the guy listed right above McGahee in this week's column rushed for more than 200 yards just last week against this Buffalo defense. If healthy, McGahee is a must start this week. If he can't go, you need to seriously consider Lance Ball to have a breakout game.
Rashard Mendenhall, Pittsburgh vs. St. Louis: As expected, Mendenhall didn't do much against the top-rated San Francisco 49ers run defense rushing for just 64 yards last week. However, the Rams have been the remedy for struggling running backs all season. Add into the equation a hobbled Ben Roethlisberger and you can expect a heavy workload for Mendenhall this week with big stats to back it up.
Bench
Peyton Hillis, Cleveland at Baltimore: Hillis fell one yard short of reaching the 100-yard mark for this first time this season last week against the Arizona Cardinals. Unfortunately for Hillis, he's got to face the Ravens defense this week ... an angry Ravens defense. Baltimore did not look good on either side of the ball on Monday night. A trip back home against the Browns is just what the doctor ordered for them. Keep all your Browns firmly planted on your bench this week or suffer the consequences.
Donald Brown, Indianapolis vs. Houston: Do not get overly excited at the 161 rushing yards and a score that Brown posted last week against the Tennessee Titans. The Texans have allowed the fifth-fewest rushing yards in the league this season and they will be out to stop the Colts' winning streak abruptly this week. Just because the Texans have clinched the AFC South doesn't mean they'll take it easy on their division rivals. Houston knows they better kick Indianapolis while they are down because it doesn't happen very often.
Ryan Grant, Green Bay vs. Chicago: Grant had a decent game last week against the Kansas City Chiefs as the Packers lost for the first time this year, rushing for 66 yards and adding another 34 receiving yards. That loss is the best thing that could've happened to Green Bay. All the pressure is off of them now and they can just play football. You'll see the high-flying offense return this week as Aaron Rodgers spreads the ball around the field, beautifully minimizing what Grant will need to do out of the back field. Expect a light load from Grant as the Packers won't need him very much this week.
Wide Receivers
Studs
Wes Welker, New England vs. Miami
Calvin Johnson, Detroit vs. San Diego
Steve Smith, Carolina vs. Tampa Bay
Roddy White, Atlanta at New Orleans
Victor Cruz, N.Y. Giants at N.Y. Jets
Mike Wallace, Pittsburgh vs. St. Louis
Larry Fitzgerald, Arizona at Cincinnati
Percy Harvin, Minnesota at Washington
Hakeem Nicks, N.Y. Giants at N.Y. Jets
Vincent Jackson, San Diego at Detroit
A.J. Green, Cincinnati vs. Arizona *Questionable: Shoulder*
Jordy Nelson, Green Bay vs. Chicago
Brandon Marshall, Miami at New England
Marques Colston, New Orleans vs. Atlanta
Start
Jeremy Maclin, Philadelphia at Dallas: Maclin caught three passes for 57 yards last week against the New York Jets as he tries to remain healthy for the remainder of the season. I like Maclin this week for a couple of reasons: 1) he caught three passes for 54 yards and a touchdown in Week 8 against the Cowboys. 2) Michael Vick will rely more on Maclin as opposed to DeSean Jackson as he has mentally checked out for the season. While Brent Celek was the main man in the Eagles pass offense last week, Celek will split time with Maclin as the two post very solid numbers when all is said and done.
Santana Moss, Washington vs. Minnesota: Moss has scored in each of the past two games and he should make it three in a row against the Vikings pass defense that has been less than stellar. While Jabar Gaffney has found a nice spot in the offense, it will be Moss that turns some heads this week with his fantasy production.
Laurent Robinson, Dallas vs. Philadelphia: Who would've have thought on a team with Dez Bryant, Miles Austin and Jason Witten that Robinson would be the big-play guy for Tony Romo? Even though Robinson only caught three passes for 29 yards last week, he still scored a touchdown (the ninth touchdown in the past eight games). Robinson caught five passes for 103 yards and a score the last time he faced the Eagles (Week 8). Expect more of the same from Robinson as this one turns into a shoot-out from the start.
Steve Johnson, Buffalo vs. Denver: Johnson has been the primary target of Ryan Fitzpatrick, and you can bet that Buffalo watched New England pick apart the Denver defense last week very closely. While the Bills offense is clearly not equal to that of New England, Buffalo has maintained a solid running game thanks to C.J. Spiller. Also, Fitzpatrick continues to produce solid passing numbers. I like Johnson to have a big game against the Broncos, which will find it difficult to win once you've fallen off...
