Start/Bench: Week 15 fantasysharks.com Wed 12/14/11 9:00 AM6 Comments

Hopefully your fantasy team was able to survive last week with stars like Greg Jennings and DeMarco Murray getting injured. Late season injuries are always tough on your fantasy squad, but they also present opportunity for owners who squirreled away the likes of Felix Jones and Donald Driver to reap the benefits. There are some very strong plays this week to help you advance in your league as the New Orleans Saints, New York Giants and Washington Redskins pile up big yards in the air while the Oakland Raiders, Cincinnati Bengals and Arizona Cardinals get it done on the ground. I utilize statistical analysis combined with more than 15 years of fantasy football experience to give you an inside look of how players will perform on a week-to-week basis. The Studs list will be updated on a regular basis as players emerge and injuries occur, but be patient with those players listed early in the season. They were ranked and selected high in your draft for a reason. When using this list, try and remember a couple basic rules: 1) Studs -- Always play your studs. Each position will include a list of players that are considered studs and should not be benched. If you have the luxury of needing to decide between studs, check out the matchups or feel free to let the shark tank assist you in your decisions. 2) Depth -- Every fantasy team is different and some have more depth than others. Only follow the recommended moves if your team depth allows you to make such a move. Quarterbacks Studs Aaron Rodgers, Green Bay at Kansas City Drew Brees, New Orleans at Minnesota Tom Brady, New England at Denver Cam Newton, Carolina at Houston Eli Manning, N.Y. Giants vs. Washington Matthew Stafford, Detroit at Oakland Tony Romo, Dallas at Tampa Bay Matt Ryan, Atlanta vs. Jacksonville Philip Rivers, San Diego vs. Baltimore Ben Roethlisberger, Pittsburgh at San Francisco *Questionable: Ankle* Start Rex Grossman, Washington at N.Y. Giants: As expected, Grossman had a solid game last week against the New England Patriots, throwing for more than 250 yards and tossing two touchdowns for the third time in the past four games. This week, Grossman faces a Giants' secondary that was torched by the Dallas Cowboys on Sunday night. Grossman also had success against the Giants back in Week 1 when he threw for 305 yards and two touchdowns. Expect similar success this week as Grossman has turned himself into a late-season sleeper. Josh Freeman, Tampa Bay vs. Dallas: Freeman threw for just 181 yards with no touchdowns and two interceptions last week against the Jacksonville Jaguars in his return from a shoulder injury. Freeman should bounce back nicely against the Dallas defense that allowed 400 yards passing last week to the New York Giants. Look for Freeman to surpass 300 yards passing for third time this season as the Buccaneers offense tries to keep up with Dallas. Bench Alex Smith, San Francisco vs. Pittsburgh: Smith has struggled recently, averaging less than 200 yards passing over the last three games while throwing just two touchdowns to one interception during that span. It won't get any easier for Smith and the 49ers this week as they face the Steelers on Monday night Football. The Steelers will have an extra two days rest after a Thursday night game in Week 14. With Frank Gore less than 100 percent, Pittsburgh will ensure Smith doesn't beat them this week. Keep expectations low on Smith. Sam Bradford, St. Louis vs. Cincinnati: Bradford did not look good on Monday night, completing just 41 percent of his passes in a loss to Seattle. His reward is to face the Bengals, which suffered a tough loss to the Houston Texans last week and are losing ground in the playoff race. Bradford may have some highlight plays, but throughout the course of the game those big plays won't be enough to justify starting him during a critical time of the fantasy season. Running Backs Studs Ray Rice, Baltimore at San Diego LeSean McCoy, Philadelphia vs. N.Y. Jets Arian Foster, Houston vs. Carolina Maurice Jones-Drew, Jacksonville at Atlanta Darren Sproles, New Orleans at Minnesota Ryan Mathews, San Diego vs. Baltimore Marshawn Lynch, Seattle at Chicago Chris Johnson, Tennessee at Indianapolis Adrian Peterson, Minnesota vs. New Orleans *Questionable: Ankle* Michael Turner, Atlanta vs. Jacksonville *Questionable: Groin* Steven Jackson, St. Louis vs. Cincinnati Frank Gore, San Francisco vs. Pittsburgh Start Cedric Benson Cincinnati at St. Louis: Benson has seen better days after tough matchups against the Houston Texans and Pittsburgh Steelers the last two weeks resulted in a total of 143 rushing yards with no scores. Facing a Rams' defense that has allowed an average of 156.8 rushing yards per game, don't be surprised to see Benson surpass 150 rushing yards by the third quarter with at least one score. Get him in your lineup as quickly as possible as you won't want to miss out on this one. Michael Bush, Oakland vs. Detroit: With Darren McFadden unlikely to play this week, Bush continues to lead the way for the Raiders' rushing attack. Bush has scored in four of the past five games and he's exceeded 100 yards rushing in two of those five games. With the Lions allowing an average of 136.1 rushing yards per game, look for Carson Palmer to spend a good portion of his day handling off to Bush and watching him do some damage even with Ndamukong Suh returning for the Lions. Chris ‘Beanie' Wells, Arizona vs. Cleveland: Since his 228-yard explosion in Week 12, Wells has rushed for a total of 94 yards on 35 carries in the past two weeks, quickly erasing the memorable performance. Fear not, Wells owners. The Browns' run defense is nowhere near what Wells faced last week (San Francisco 49ers) and he'll find plenty of running room between the tackles in route to a big day on the ground. Forget about the last two weeks and get him back in your lineup or you'll regret it. Bench Rashard Mendenhall, Pittsburgh at San Francisco: Mendenhall hasn't rushed for more than 80 yards since Week 6 and has only stayed in good graces with his owners by scoring five touchdowns in the past five weeks. Facing the best run defense in the league is not a matchup you want to mess with. The 49ers have simply dominated opposing running backs. allowing just 70.5 rushing yards per game and zero rushing touchdowns on the season. Avoid this matchup like the plague. Mike Tolbert, San Diego vs. Baltimore: Ryan Mathews has clearly emerged as the top dog in the Chargers' backfield, leaving Tolbert searching for table scraps. Not only has Tolbert rushed for just 45 yards in the past two games, but he didn't catch a pass in either game. The points per reception were keeping him on the fringe of a start each week, but without those numbers and the prospect of facing the Ravens defense this week, you don't want Tolbert in your lineup. C.J. Spiller, Buffalo vs. Miami: No one expected Spiller to fill the shoes of Fred Jackson, but Spiller hasn't done much with the opportunity presented to him, rushing for just 184 yards in the three games since he's been the starter scoring only once. It won't get any easier any as the Dolphins who held Jackson and Spiller to a combined 19 yards on 10 carries back in Week 11. Wide Receivers Studs Wes Welker, New England at Denver Calvin Johnson, Detroit at Oakland Steve Smith, Carolina at Houston Victor Cruz, N.Y. Giants vs. Washington Mike Wallace, Pittsburgh at San Francisco Larry Fitzgerald, Arizona vs. Cleveland Percy Harvin, Minnesita vs. New Orleans Roddy White, Atlanta vs. Jacksonville Jordy Nelson, Green Bay at Kansas City Hakeem Nicks, N.Y. Giants vs. Washington Vincent Jackson, San Diego vs. Baltimore A.J. Green, Cincinnati at St. Louis Brandon Marshall, Miami at Buffalo Marques Colston, New Orleans at Minnesota Start Donald Driver, Green Bay at Kansas City: No one likes to see players like Greg Jennings go down with an injury. That being said, someone needs to pick up the slack left behind and while the Packers have plenty of weapons at receiver, I feel Driver will step it up during the stretch run alongside Jordy Nelson and provide Aaron Rodgers with all the help he needs to continue his MVP season and keep the undefeated streak alive. Driver caught four passes for 75 yards last week against the Oakland Raiders and could have had much more if the Packers didn't take their foot off the gas as early as the second quarter. Look for big numbers offensively once again for Green Bay as Driver makes his mark filling in the void left by Jennings. Santana Moss, Washington at N.Y. Giants: Moss scored his first touchdown since Week 4 last week against the New England Patriots as he continues to work his way back into the offensive scheme of the Redskins. Look for Washington to have plenty of success moving the ball in the air against the Giants, and Moss will lead the way. Moss had six catches for 76 yards against the Giants back in Week 1, and those numbers should only improve as the Redskins' offense has found a nice groove as of late. Stevie Johnson, Buffalo vs. Miami: After a hot start to the season, Johnson was relatively quiet until Fred Jackson went down. Suddenly, his offensive numbers began to climb once again as he has caught a touchdown in two of the past three games, averaging six catches for 81 yards during that span. Even though Johnson caught just two passes for 16 yards in Week 10 against Miami, you can expect Buffalo to come out throwing much more this week and finding success against a team that just fired its head coach. That doesn't bode well for the rest of the Dolphins' season. Nate Washington, Tennessee at Indianapolis: Washington posted his second 100-yard receiving game in the past four weeks as he caught six passes for 130 yards and a score against New Orleans last week. This week he faces a Colts defense that held him to just...

Romo or Rodgers? Usually I start Rodgers but I a little unsure if they will sit him if he gets a large enough lead.

Are you nuts! Even if Rodgers sits early, he'll get more than ROMO!

I started rodgers and romo did like 10 pts better last week. You never know.

Rivers or Yates?

I know Rivers has done better in the last few weeks but against the Ravens defense is it worth the risk. I am the number 1 seed and have my semifinal game this week.

How can anyone recommend starting anyone from TB at this point? Except for maybe Blount. That team has completely given up.
