The seventh-round rookie had an impressive summer, beating out incumbent starting slot cornerback AJ Parker for the backup job at nickelback behind free-agent acquisition Mike Hughes. It is possible that Lucas's versatility won out, as he not only contributes on special teams, but Lucas can move over to safety, too.
