Ryan signed a five-year contract extension with the Falcons on Thursday with $100 million guaranteed, Chris Mortensen of ESPN reports.
EDGE Analysis
The price of a franchise quarterback goes up yet again with Ryan officially signing his extension, as he will now be the first player in NFL history to earn $30 million in a single season. Ryan saw a sharp drop in production this past year after his MVP campaign in 2016, as the quarterback threw 18 less touchdown passes, five more interceptions and for nearly 900 fewer yards. Still, Ryan is far and away the most consistently productive player the Falcons have had under center in their franchise's history, and he was paid as such. The good news for Ryan is the Falcons added yet another weapon at wide receiver in former Alabama standout Calvin Ridley in an effort to help the offense return close to its 2016 form.

Atlanta won’t have the cheap concessions stand prices they did in 2017... Unfortunatly the price of tickets, jerseys, parking and concessions all inflate with the market. Time for my employer to step it up also....

I know right, it's starting to become ridiculous, and Rodgers is going to get even more from the Packers.

I imagine some of these QBs would be signing $300 million contracts if not for the salary cap. This is insane. I mean even Blake Bortles will be making $20 million this season. That'll likely equate to $1 million per TD pass. But it's hard to take it out on the players, I wouldn't decline the beefy salary either! But ultimately we the fans will suffer most because of the inevitable rise in ticket prices and concessions.

Lets not forget the rule changes that are taking what used to be an awesome game and making it riddled with rules that make it quite different from what it was even 20 years ago....

mrbud, believe me, I just complained in one of my league message boards about the rule changes. They are absolutely taking away the most exciting parts of the game. The onside kick is pretty much dead now too. They say it remained "relatively unchanged", I say BS. What are the odds of a successful onside kick now that you no longer can stack one side of the line, the kicking team can't get a head start, and there is no longer contact allowed inside of 15 yards??? It'll be nearly impossible. So I totally agree with you. Next they will put flags on their waists in order to remove all possibilities of a broken bone or excessive bruising. Lmao.
