Ifyou read my article weekly, you will recall that I predicted last week thatSammy Watkins would have a big week, and boy did he! Let's see how the others fared.
Quarterbacks
DerekCarr - Oakland Raiders
Playing against a very hungry team thatis in the lead in the NFC, Carr had a tough task. Derek performed OK while putting up 16-28-173with 1 sack and 1 interception. He playedbetter than the numbers suggest and provides a hope for the future. Carr is the first rookie quarterback in over40 years to start and lose his first 6 games.
Blake Bortles -- Jacksonville Jaguars
Congratulations on your first winBlake, let this be the first of many. Tobe honest, this was not his best performance of the season while going17-31-159 with 1 touchdown, 3 interceptions, & 2 sacks. Blake needs to find ways to keep from turningthe ball over so often. Bortles shoulduse his legs more and scramble for yardage, like the 37 yards he had onSunday. I know his receivers are alsoyoung, but they need to work together and figure things out to not have so manyturnovers.
Teddy Bridgewater -- Minnesota Vikings
It has been a tough two weeks for Teddygoing up against arguably the top two defensive fronts in football. Just like last week, this week was notpretty. Bridgewater went 15-26-157 with 1 touchdown,2 interceptions & 5 sacks. I cantell you that the offensive line has stunk during the past two weeks, but Teddyneeds to know his surroundings better and get rid of the ball instead of takingall these sacks. When I mean get rid ofit, I mean throw it out of bounds, not to the defense.
RunningBacks
BishopSankey -- Tennessee Titans
Things have not gone well for theTitans since Jake Locker got injured, and the whole offense has suffered. That includes Sankey, who has also started inthose games. Bishop had 16 rushes for 56yards on the day. Hopefully the returnof Locker will also help open up the running game for Sankey and theTitans.
DevontaFreeman -- AtlantaFalcons
The injuries continue to mount for theoffensive line in Atlantaand it brings everybody down. Matt Ryanhad no time to throw, and there were no running lanes available for any of therunning backs. Devonta only had 2 rushesfor 20 yards, but he also caught all 5 balls thrown to him for 17 yards. Steven Jackson isn't doing much as thestarter, maybe they should let Freeman start once to see if he can open it up alittle for the Falcons.
TerranceWest -- ClevelandBrowns
West seems to have fallen to 3rdon the depth chart and did not do himself any favors wit 5 rushes for 8yards. Do not be surprised if he is ahealthy scratch again this week, the coaches were upset at his running and itmay be some sort of punishment.
IsaiahCrowell -- Cleveland Browns
The Browns really missed Center AlexMack on Sunday, they couldn't run at all against Jacksonville, yes that's right, Jacksonville. Isaiah had 7 carries for 18 yards and had 1reception for 5 yards. Crowell is stilla favorite of many to take over as lead back for Cleveland, the question is, when will thathappen?
AndreWilliams -- New York Giants
Rashad Jennings has nothing to fear, hewill regain #1 running back duties when he returns from injury. Williams once again struggled with 18 carriesfor only 51 yards and did not catch any of the 3 passes intended for him. The weeks that Andre has started have beendisappointing.
CarlosHyde -- San Francisco 49ers
Denver was in themood to help Peyton Manning celebrate, and nothing was going to stand in theirway. The 49ers could not do anything onthe ground against the Broncos. BothFrank Gore and Hyde had difficulty. Carlos had 3 carries for 15 yards and caught both passes for 8yards. Things should come easier aftertheir bye this week.
JeremyHill -- CincinnatiBengals
The loss of A.J. Green is now being feltin a big way in Cincy. The offense wasSHUT OUT against the Colts. Give Indianapolis some credit, their defense is much improved. Onceagain, I assumed that the running game would lead the way for the Bengals, butnothing doing. You know what they sayabout assuming, you make an a__ out of you and me. Jeremy only had 4 carries for 15 yardsagainst the Colts. Another tough outingagainst Baltimorelies ahead.
AlfredBlue -- HoustonTexans
The health of Arian Foster still looksgood (for now) and once again left little for Blue to do. Alfred had 5 rushes for 14 yards, but alsocaught his only pass for an 11-yard touchdown. Blue also did convert a fake punt for a first down, so give him somecredit. Blue still remains a crucialhand-cuff.
JerickMcKinnon -- MinnesotaVikings
It sure looks like the Vikings don'tnecessarily have to get a running back high in next years draft, becauseMcKinnon may just be the guy. Jerickstarted again this week and was one of the only bright spots for Minnesota. McKinnon had 19 rushes for 103 yards and alsocaught both passes intended for him. Buffalo had not allowed aTEAM to rush for over 100 yards this season, let alone one player. If he is still on your waiver, he is a MUSTadd.
Damien Williams -- Miami Dolphins
Daniel Thomas is back as the #2 backbehind Lamar Miller relegating Williams back to the bench. Damien will not be a factor unless an injuryhappens.
Branden Oliver -- San Diego Chargers
We knew it would be very difficult forOliver to match last week's figures, but it makes it much more difficult when youdon't have the ball. Kansas City controlled the clock and did not give San Diego much time to work with. Brandenstill managed 15 carries for 67 yards and also had 2 catches for 11 yards. Oliver will still be the man until Mathewsgets back, but he will still be in the picture even after that.
Lorenzo Taliaferro -- Baltimore Ravens
It sure seems as if Bernard Pierce hastaken the #2 running back job, leaving Taliaferro the scraps. Lorenzo only had 4 carries for 3 yards andshould not be a factor until/unless injury strikes again.
Dri Archer -- Pittsburgh Steelers
When you have the Killers Bees(Le'Veon Bell and Antonio Brown) doing the damage that they did on Monday, itdoesn't get many other players involved. Archer had 2 carries for 7 yards and should only get minimal use for themost part going forward.
StormJohnson -- JacksonvilleJaguars
After the poor showing last week, averaging 2.1 yards per carry, Jacksonvilledecided to let Denard Robinson start, and he was mighty good this week. Johnson only had 16 yards on 6 carries, buthe did get into the end zone. I don'tknow what happens when Toby Gerhart returns, but I wouldn't count on Storm fortoo much.
Tre Mason -- St Louis Rams
The biggest surprise of the week wasMason taking control of the Rams backfield. He didn't start, but he had 18 carries for 85 yards and a touchdownagainst the vaunted Seattledefense. Only one back had rushed forover 60 yards against them, and that was league leader DeMarco Murray. Mason had 18 carries compared to 2 for BennyCunningham. A changing of the guard hastaken place and Mason should be a top waiver pickup this week. Beware however that his next 3 games could bevery difficult.
Juwan Thompson -- Denver Broncos
Once again, Juwan was the backup toRonnie Hillman ahead of C.J. Anderson and had 6 carries for 30 yards. With the uncertainty of when Montee Ball willbe back, you need to pay attention in case Hillman gets injured.
Jonas Gray -- New England Patriots
To be honest, nobody knew for sure whatwas going to happen at running back for New Englandafter Stevan Ridley fell to injury. Thesurprise was that Jonas Gray played and had 3 carries for 12 yards. It may have been due to the wet field, sodon't do anything yet. Let us wait andsee what happens this week. Stay tuned.
WideReceivers
SammyWatkins -- BuffaloBills
I hope you took my advice on him fromlast week because it paid off HUGE. Watkins had the best fantasy day for a rookie yet this year with hisline of 9-122-2 against Minnesotaon Sunday. The 14 targets he hadsuggests that this was not by accident and this could be the first ofmany. Sammy seems to have chemistry withKyle Orton and could really do well again this week against the woeful Jetssecondary. Needs to be STARTED in allleagues this week.
KelvinBenjamin -- CarolinaPanthers
When Aaron Rodgers has almost a perfectday, you know your team is in trouble. That is what happened to the Panthers on Sunday. With Green Bay doing whatever it wanted on offense, it gave thedefense the chance to pin their ears back and rush Cam Newton hard on every play. Newtondid not have much time to throw and Kelvin was not very productive. Benjamin had 3 catches for 61 yards on 6targets, but he did find the end zone once again, even if it was in garbagetime it still counts.
BrandinCooks -- New OrleansSaints
I have to be honest, with the conditionthat Jimmy Graham was in, I expected a much bigger game out of Cooks. Brandin only had 2 catches for 23 yards on 3targets on Sunday. Especially with theLions defensive front, I expected a lot more short passes out of the slot forCooks. You can expect better games inthe following weeks. With the Saints at 2-4,I can see Sean Peyton and Drew Brees getting pass-happy very soon.
Jordan Matthews -- Philadelphia Eagles
Bye Week
Taylor Gabriel -- Cleveland Browns
When a team like Jacksonville gets a win, something had tohappen. Browns Quarterback Brian Hoyer wasoff all day and Clevelandcould not get any offense going. Gabrielmanaged 3 catches for 39 yards on 7 targets. He could have had more if Hoyer hadn't had such a terrible day.
JarvisLandry -- MiamiDolphins
Ryan Tannehill has quietly had a verygood year and is trending up each week. Landry is a great sleeper because he is seeing more time and gettingmore chances, also. Jarvis had 4 catchesfor 46 yards on 5 targets this week and looks to have learned the offense. With Mike Wallace & Charles Clay also onthe team, everybody can't be covered all the time. Look for Landry to put up more numbers goingforward.
