With the release of Dan Herron and Zurlon Tipton, Robinson begins the season as the backup to Frank Gore. We'll need to see if Robinson holds up during a week of practice to gauge his availability for Week 1, but he could emerge with a significant role later this season if the 32-year old Gore gets hurt or wears down.
