Trask faces some challenges in his quest to become the Buccaneers' starting quarterback in 2023, Rick Stroud of the Tampa Bay Times reports.
EDGE Analysis
General manager Jason Licht and head coach Todd Bowles unsurprisingly gave Trask public votes of confidence when speaking at the NFL Scouting Combine last week, but the largely unproven 2021 second-round pick has some obstacles to clear in his quest for the starting job. Stroud points out one of the primary ones is the fact Trask will not only be tasked with learning a new offense, but will also be working with a first-time play-caller in new offensive coordinator Dave Canales and rookie position coach in Thad Lewis. Additionally, a young but experienced veteran such as Drew Lock or Baker Mayfield is likely to eventually be added to the quarterback room, which could be a challenge Trask isn't ready to overcome.
Well the Bucs really had very poor financial management to put themselves in this position, cannot feel that sorry for them. In about five years from now they may recover. Sometimes you just need to bite the bullet and make smarter decisions. They will probably finish fourth in their division with a bleak outlook for at least two years.
I live in Tampa, and I am a season ticket holder. What you said is accurate. I was just saying that Tom came, and we were able to cover a ton of staffing issues that we tend to experience with ownership and drafting. Since 1976 we still have not drafted or had a franchise QB. Tom was a loaner. Although we gained a Superbowl, we still do not have enough talent to be relevant now that he is gone, and that lack of depth will show this year.
To be fair, you could also say the Bucs are being big boys and NOT kicking the can down the road (like the Saints) by eating the full $35m in dead cap from Brady's void years in 2023. It's unpleasant, but the ramifications of a vet-heavy Super Bowl championship tend to be unpleasant these days... as the Rams can also attest.
Also if either of you fine gentleman would be willing to help me get this southeastern Fleaflicker league back full up I'd love to have ya! Just got a lifelong Saints fan onboard, couple Bucs fans would really get us going:
To be fair to you MH I will respectfully decline, but good luck with your leagues. Yes I am a Buc fan and that 's what hurts is the fiscal mismanagement and the price that has to come with it.
KenCut You have hit the nail on the head! Our GM is not a very good drafter as has been proven by his performance. I am hoping that maybe he will realize this and listen to the coaches a little more. Every kid that I coached is wondering why we leave all-stars for everyone else and I have not got any good answers for them.
