Nugent was released by the Giants on Saturday, Mike Garafolo of NFL Network reports.

This kicking battle turned out to be much fiercer than most expected, as both Nugent and 22-year-old Aldrick Rosas were perfect throughout the preseason and each displayed plenty of strength on kickoffs. Nugent, in particular, was five of five in exhibition play -- including two from beyond 50 yards against the Jets -- so he clearly still has it entering his 13th season in the league. However, the Giants went with Rosas, who went eight of eight this summer and could be their kicker of the future.
