Bell said Tuesday that he doesn't plan to play in the NFL this coming season, as he instead plans to shift his focus to boxing, ESPN.com reports.
EDGE Analysis
The 30-year-old -- who is a free agent -- has a scheduled bout with another veteran running back, Adrian Peterson, on July 30. While Peterson hasn't ruled out continuing his NFL career, at this stage Bell isn't considering that option as the 2022 season approaches. In eight appearances (five with Baltimore and three with Tampa Bay) in 2021, Bell logged 39 carries for 101 yards and two touchdowns while adding five catches for 30 yards and a score.
Turns down a large contract from the Steelers and holds out an entire year during his prime. Signs with the Jets for a lesser amount and is cut after a year. Bounces around a couple of teams and is out of the league within 3 years from his Jets contract. Great decision-making from Bell.
maybe you should reach out to him, man. you could pass on some personal experience of parlaying your physical talents into more than forty-five million dollars worth of contracts before you were thirty years old...
Yeah seems like he’s been around forever. Dude kind of paved the way for other dudes to really use holdouts effectively in contract negotiations… so that’s cool, right?
Yes, exactly that. We only need to look at the statistics of RB's in the past who have had heavy usage and when many (not all) of them start to decline, which is also what I have seen in 45 years of watching the NFL.
Should I be impressed with 45m over 7 years as an NFL starter? That's only 6m a year for a 4 time All-Pro. Bottom line is he made a series of mistakes down the stretch that cost him dearly leading him to do gimmick matches in boxing at age 30.
joegibbskins, I dont know where you got your numbers but they arent accurate.
Heres there average earned per year including 2022 season / not including the 2022 season / remaining guaranteed money:
Christian McCaffrey, $8.9 million / $9 million / $1 million left
Ezekiel Elliott (DAL), $10.1 million / $9.7 million / $0 million left
Alvin Kamara (NO), $5.7 million / $4.1 million / $4 million left
Joe Mixon (CIN), $5.5 million / $4.8 million / $0 million left
Any of those guys could be cut after this year or get a season ending injury (like Zeke if he gets cut next year as a post june 1st cut the cowboys save 10 mil in cap space and he has been greatly under preforming his contract since he signed it)
Joegibbskins No.....I said CM is averaging 8.9 mil a season and you are saying 17.2......you are so far off from real number...bell is averaging more a season than 2 of the guys you compared him to so I guess that means that Mixon and Kamara don't impress you either
"Christian McCaffrey signed a 4 year, $64,063,500 contract with the Carolina Panthers, including a $21,500,000 signing bonus, $38,162,500 guaranteed, and an average annual salary of $16,015,875 over the length of the contract." To your credit, "In 2022, McCaffrey will earn a base salary of $1,035,000, a restructure bonus of $7,365,000 and a workout bonus of $200,000" but we are talking about average salaries, correct? That is what Norm said, that is what I said.
CONTRACT TERMS:4 yr(s) / $64,063,500
SIGNING BONUS$21,500,000
AVERAGE SALARY$16,015,875
My point stands. 6m a year does not impress me and he screwed up royally.
You arent comparing the same things. You are looking at 1 players career average as a whole and comparing it to another players most recent contract, so your point does not make any sense.
Bells career average is $6mil, CMCs career average is $8.9 mil. (At the end of this season CMC will have earned $53.6mil over 6 years which is $8.9mil a year average)
If you arent going to look at CMCs rookie contract earnings then you cant look at Bells either which means Bell averaged $11.1 mil over the last 4 years he played

norm-b is the type of guy to respond with "let's see you throw a football" when you call an NFL QB bad.
