New offensive coordinator John Morton expects to use Powell and Matt Forte (knee) in a committee, NJ.com's Daryl Slater reports.
EDGE Analysis
The 28-year-old Powell and 31-year-old Forte make for an unconventional duo, with both largely valued for their work catching passes out of the backfield. Forte served as the lead runner for the majority of last season, while Powell handled most of the snaps on obvious passing downs and also took on a larger share of carries as the year progressed. Coming off a season in which he averaged 5.5 yards per carry compared to Forte's 3.7, Powell seems primed to supplant the elder statesmen as the top commodity in New York's backfield. Forte made it clear he wants to be more involved in the passing game, even if it means ceding more carries to Powell. Based on last season's results -- Forte produced 6.1 yards per target and Powell only 5.2 -- such an approach would make a lot of sense.
