Mike Mitchell has won the Panthers' starting strong safety job. Mitchell didn't have much competition for the spot. He had been running ahead of D.J. Campbell, Haruki Nakamura, and UDFA Robert Lester for much of the summer. Campbell and Lester were part of the Panthers' final cuts, while Nakamura will back up both Mitchell and FS Charles Godfrey. Mitchell is fearless and plays with reckless abandon. He'll likely rack up plenty of 15-yard penalties.
