Langford will start Monday's game if Matt Forte (knee) is unable to play, NFL.com's Ian Rapoport reports.
EDGE Analysis
It's important to note the Bears have not officially ruled Forte out, but his prognosis for Monday's game does not look favorable. In the event that the Bears' star running back is unable to play, Langford will likely get the majority of the looks out of the backfield. While the Michigan State alum certainly has the ability to run the football, Ka'Deem Carey could enter the game during obvious passing situations, making Langford's fantasy value even more murky heading into a prime matchup against the Chargers.
Jeremy Langford..... What a name..... Sounds like a fierce, pounding running back. I honestly believe that this could be the start of a change of the guard at running back for the Bears. Don't get me wrong, I love Matt Forte and always have, but his injury is just what the Bears need right now. The team is in such disarray that they need to look into the future. As good as Forte is, it would take an injury to really see what you've got behind him. To me, Forte is one of the most under valued players of all time in the NFL. As much as I love and appreciate him, I am very interested to see what the future holds at the running back position for the Bears.
As a Michigan State fan I got to see Langford play a lot. He had three straight 1500+ seasons, he is a pounding running back with breakaway speed. Very underrated player. They will not shy away from using him either the bears need a back.
if Langford can perform well, I could easily see them jump ship on forte, cuz they probably don't want to take on his big asking price, if they can get decent production from a guy on a rookie contract for the next few years. save a lot of cap room, so they can fix their O line and D line in free agency.
Contract year is the key, I don't expect Forte to be out very long as such. Langford will get his shot, but Chicago needs to look deeper than RB. Forte and Jeffrey are the only consistent players they have, the O-line is public restroom toilet paper strong, they need to fix that first, then QB!
Langford succeeded Le’Veon Bell at MSU, by the way. And, not that it means anything, but Langford ran all over Michigan, whereas Bell was relatively quiet in the in-state rivalry. I think answer111 could be onto something here.
College vs Pros. Completely different leagues! Look at the success Monte Ball and Melvin Gordon had in college, now look at them! I get it your a fan, but we'll get to see what he is all about on Monday!
Carey played well in his limited opportunities last year, but of course you can't expect the Bears to actually properly utilize anyone they freakin' draft.
Carey's blocking needs some work before he ever gets a real chance. we saw that Monday night, when he chose the wrong rusher and let cutler get crushed from the outside on the fumble in the first half.
